People on Twitter are calling out President Donald Trump for failing to recite the Apostles Creed at the funeral for former President George H. W. Bush on Wednesday.
Footage from the event shows much of the church, including the former presidents seated with Trump, standing to recite the profession of faith.

No it’s not.
> In the Episcopal (Anglican) Church, the Apostles creed is generally used in services where Holy Communion is not offered and the Nicene creed when Communion is celebrated, the Nicene being somewhat longer
Lutheran, same.
And I’ll see your Apostle’s and Nicene and raise you an Athanasian!
I gotta tell ya......Ive been to Catholic funerals and Episcopals in my ignorant opinion seem to be very similar. I stand corrected. My point is I didnt know if I was coming or going.......do I stand, do I repeat or whatever. I was embarrassed to say the least. Melania is Catholic and the President is Presbyterian and Im not questioning their lack of the Creed and its no ones damn business if they did or not.
Eppiscopalians are basically pretend Catholics. They have a Catholic ceremony but do not believe in Christian teachings. They are more like Unitarian Universalists. In particular, they worship a “Spirit” (not the Holy Spirit) who is doing a “New Thing,” e.g., legitimizing homosexuality, transgenderism, polyamory, etc. They do not believe in the authority of Scripture, among other things.
Anglicans and Episcopalians too.
Protestants usually have a profession of faith...but a creed none the less.
i guess if you say catholic with a little “c” its ok.
..how about the interpretation being floated on the web that the President and First Lady wanted to separate themselves from the hypocrisy of others on that row—people soon to be prosecuted...
In the creed that’s catholic with a small c, as in all-embracing
Not the Catholic Church
Your catechist didn’t teach you well
oh i saw that. he looked terrible.
He looked like he had one foot in the grave.
nah, we said it for years in the Methodist service, with slight word variation from Catholic version
I am amazed so many people know so little about this!
I think that’s why hillary was so angry. Indictments were released today. She knows Trump DOJ is going after her.
Just for the record huff post.....Trump was the only President in attendance as the others are FORMER presidents...
All that said, ever since Pope Benedict needlessly changed the words to the creed, I don't recite it in mass either. Because I do it from memory and keep messing it up. I just can't get the new phrases that change nothing meaningful yet destroy my own ability to say it properly. I can't read along because that requires my reading glasses and I don't carry them readily available in church. So I say the first few lines, that sort of drop to a mumble, then stop and do it the old way in my head. So there ya go.
I must admit, having grown up in the Eastern Orthodox faith, we knew very little about other denominations.
It was not until the last 10 yeas, I was able to learn about other faiths.
LOL, as a Christian you are part of the catholic church (the universal all embracing one) but not the Catholic Church
Pretty much every church I’ve seen has some form of it.
Why does anti-Christian Huff Po even care?
I didn’t grow up in a liturgical church, but I do not see any harm in praying or repeating scriptural writings. If you believe what you are reciting, and it’s Scriptural, it’s fine. However, reciting these things when you clearly don’t believe them, is, indeed, vain. I think Jesus was referring to hypocrites, when he spoke of vain repitions. I often pray Scripture. Is that a vain repetition? Read some of the prayers in the older versions of the Book of Common Prayer. They are beautiful AND Scriptural.
All Christendom refits tge apostles creed. The catholic is small c meaning universal a dhas nothing to do with the Roman sect
the Huff Post making issue over technicalities of a religious credo that not all denominations recite? Pretty amusing considering the source.
I saw the words The Apostles’ Creed and immediately got it confused with the Lord’s Prayer. Duh!
Read Matthew, chapter 23. It’s about hypocrisy. THAT is the sin, not reciting a creed which contains allegiance to Christianity. You strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
