Did the Ancestors of the Jews Create the World's First Civilization?

Posted on 10/07/2014 9:06:12 AM PDT by ComtedeMaistre

Last month, I read a truly fascinating book, written by John Entine, titled: "Abraham's Children: Race, Identity, and the DNA of the Chosen People". Entine is a genetics expert, and a fellow of the American Enterprise Institute.

http://www.amazon.com/Abrahams-Children-Identity-Chosen-People/dp/0446580635

It mentions that Jews have genetic markers, that can be detected by DNA tests. Of course, genetic markers also exist for Irishmen, Chinese people, Indians, etc. The Mizrahi Jews from the Middle East and the Ashkenazi Jews from Europe, have very similar genes. Genetics research and Archaeology are proving that many of the accounts in the Old Testament are true.

Jews have played a major role in the history of every major civilization, with the exception of the pre-colonial Aztec and Inca civilizations. They were with the Babylonians, the Ancient Persians, the Ancient Egyptians, the Macedonian Greeks, the Ancient Romans, and the Arab-Islamic Civilization of the Middle East. The was also a Jewish presence in Ancient China and Ancient India.

Abraham, the first Jew, is said to have emerged from the city of Ur (in modern day Iraq). Ur was a city in Sumer, which was the first civilization in human history. Sumer gave humanity the world's first written records. It may be possible that, Abraham's ancestors could have created the world's first civilization: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ur

It may be possible that the "chosen-ness" of the Jews did not begin with Abraham, but with Abraham's ancestors. The ancestors of Abraham could have been chosen to give civilization and the written word to humanity.

It’s worth noting that civilization began in the Fertile Crescent, the homeland of very ancient Semitic languages like Akkadian. Akkadian was with Sumerian one of the two main languages of Mesopotamia.

Genesis really does read like a book of a people who were plugged in to civilization from the beginning—and the correlations like Eden/Edin and Noah/Utnapishtim seem to reinforce that.

“It may be possible that, Abraham’s ancestors could have created the world’s first civilization”

That’s not exactly a revelation, is it? If Sumer was the first, and he came from there, it sort of follows.

Let’s not forget that Abraham had other children besides Ishmael and Isaac, by his concubines. They were sent ‘to the east’ with gifts and goods after Sarah died and Isaac was old enough to take care of the family’s fortune ...................

The Death of Abraham (NIV)

25 Abraham had taken another wife, whose name was Keturah. 2 She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah. 3 Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan; the descendants of Dedan were the Ashurites, the Letushites and the Leummites. 4 The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanok, Abida and Eldaah. All these were descendants of Keturah.

5 Abraham left everything he owned to Isaac. 6 But while he was still living, he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them away from his son Isaac to the land of the east.

7 Abraham lived a hundred and seventy-five years. 8 Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, an old man and full of years; and he was gathered to his people. 9 His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah near Mamre, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite, 10 the field Abraham had bought from the Hittites.[a] There Abraham was buried with his wife Sarah. 11 After Abraham’s death, God blessed his son Isaac, who then lived near Beer Lahai Roi.

Is the author implying that the original city of babylon wasn’t a civilization?

Well Abraham was Semitic, Amorite in origin, the second wave of Semitic people from Yemen who came to Mesopotamia after the Akkadians (ancestors of the Assyrians and Babylonians). But the original Sumerians were not Semites but related to the Indus valley people and the elamites namely Dravidian Tamil peoples

Rumor has it that the Jews also domesticated the first pineapples on southern Brazil.
