We need to put respect back into the Catholic church. This shaking hands, guitars etc...is making it a junk religion.

Not a problem!

Changes are small and will be available for parishioners to follow along.

It WILL require that you PAY ATTENTION and not just go from memory.

I like that MEANING is restored, in favor of the watered down “ecumenical” verbiage.

The “changes”(just a slightly different translation, not real changes) are virtually minuscule, for either the priest or the people. However, the “Spirit of VII” folks staked their whole program on being able to hollow out and destroy the Mass, which they could only do if they had total control over the text...and during a while, the “local option” put in by the USCCB gave them the ability to say and do virtually anything they wanted.

What is really freaking them out is that Rome is taking charge of the liturgy again. This translation is meant to be followed and used, and they’re beginning to realize that the fun is over for them and they didn’t win.

If they would only get rid of taking the Eucharist by hand, I would be very happy.

We are actually going to a BETTER, TRUER translation of the changes after Vatican II. I welcome the change - disappointed that our pastor hasn’t mentioned much beyond the bulletin inserts. We do have new Mass books in the pews- in addition to the book for the new liturgical year. I do think many in our congregation will make the effort to follow the Mass book.

Simply this is a homecoming for the English-speaking Roman Catholics this weekend back to its spiritual roots, which includes its Biblical.

"But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.: - Matthew 6:7

He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. - Mark 6:7-9

The Catholic Church, its religious authorities often remind its followers, is intentionally slow to change, if it ever changes at all.

which makes the "stuff" (exercising religion forum forbearance) shoved down the throats of the faithful 40-odd years ago all the more outrageous and inauthentic.

What was wrong with the words Jesus said to his disciples?

Catholics. Sheesh.

I am truly looking forward to this. While I prefer the Traditional Latin Mass, the Novus Ordo needs more reverence. We’re there to praise God, and the language, as the modernists understand, matters greatly. The third translation is vastly superior. If complaints arise, there’s always the original: Latin. And really, while not completely perfect, this is a much more faithful translation. The complaints I’ve seen amount to either, we’re used to the other, or the people won’t understand. Bah. Granted, none of us are perfect, but give people some credit. They’ll be fine in a bit, and also, in a better place. The time for complaining and waffling is past, period.

Oh, nonsense. The changes aren’t going to send people into hysterics. It’s just not that big a deal. The WaPo is dramatizing again.

This is a load of horse manure. None of these guys complained when they hijacked the Mass, hauled away the stone gothic altars and stuck in wooden tables, painted over all the statues and frescoes on the walls, threw away the altar rails, and mistranslated the Latin.

Move just a small way back toward santity, however, and the libs all start screaming and yelling.

They already delayed these changes mandated by the Vatican for more than a year, while they clung to their false translations.

They will have the new translations printed up, or at least our parish does. All you have to do is pick it up and read the responses from it, as you do with the hymnal. And if you’ve been around for a while, you’ll recognize the old, original translations before they deliberately screwed everything up. It’s still the Novus Ordo Mass, but now properly translated.

What all this English updating is simply is bringing back the importance of both PRAYER and MYSTERY to the holy mass.

She lost me at the mention of Holy Communion being something that has been conducted by the Church for "thousands of years". "Almost two thousand years" would have been relatively accurate and spot on if she mentioned the changes after Vatican II. I am not a Roman Catholic so corrections from any who are will be welcome.

When a reporter or essayist demonstrates ignorance and stupidity within the first two or three paragraphs it's almost invariably downhill from there.

The "new" Mass will be:
1. Confusing the the C&E Catholics but since they come to Mass so seldom, that is to be expected;
2. Confusing to those who haven't been paying attention to ANYTHING at Mass the last several months but then, they don't pay attention, so that is to be expected;
3. Confusing to those Catholics who accidently tried to read the Mass upside down;
4. Confusing to those who SAY it's confusing, but since they are just being middle-aged teenagers that's to be expected. That's their lacuna in life and only the Lord can help them;
5. Confusing to nonCatholics but the Mass usually was confusing so nothing's changed.
And who cares?!

The message I've read on the boards is that the changes are MINISCULE so there is NOTHING to be confused about. For me, the changes are almost like going back to the old missal I used the the 60's, but what do I know? I am OFTEN confused.

**Will Catholic Mass Changes Cause Mass Confusion?**

No, absolutely not. It will be so familiar to many.
