The debate among evangelical Christians over Darwin's theory of evolution has returned to front stage this summer with the publication of two separate cover stories on the issue by leading Christian magazines.
In its June cover story, Christianity Today reported on how Christian proponents of Darwin are challenging historic beliefs about Adam and Eve.
Now Christian news magazine World has announced that it will name two books critiquing "theistic evolution" as its "Books of the Year" in its upcoming July 2 issue. World called the evolution debate in churches and religious colleges "the biggest current battle both among Christians and between Christian and anti-Christian thought."
One of the two books honored by World is God and Evolution: Protestants, Catholics, and Jews Explore Darwin's Challenge to Faith (Discovery Institute Press, 2010).
The book's editor, Dr. Jay Richards, commented, "We wanted to clear away the fog and fuzzy-thinking on this issue. Our book makes clear that to the degree theistic evolution is theistic, it will not be fully Darwinian. And to the degree that it is Darwinian, it will fail fully to preserve traditional theism."
God and Evolution features essays by Protestant, Catholic and Jewish scholars critical of the growing effort by advocates of theistic evolution such as Francis Collins to persuade leaders of the faith community to change their theology without hearing from scientists who are skeptical of the claims of unguided Darwinian evolution.
"Over the past couple of years, Collins has convened large closed-door meetings of evangelical Christian leaders to convince them to embrace theistic evolution," said Dr. John West, who wrote the first two chapters of God and Evolution.
"These gatherings intentionally excluded any scientists who were critical of Darwin's theory of unguided evolution. Collins has said that he wants to foster dialogue on this issue, but excluding scholars who dissent from Darwin from the conversation is a recipe for monologue, not dialogue."

“the Spirit of the Lord hovering over the surface of the deep”
Perhaps; but was was the deep? I thought it was perhaps deep space or something; not necessarily water over earth.
I don’t claim to know exactly what the deep is, so I’m not arguing with you. I’m just saying “the deep” doesn’t certainly mean there was a planet Earth at the time.
Start with the fact that everyone who reads the Bible interprets it a bit differently.
Then move on to the fact that we have so many, different, Christian denominations.
Why, if the meaning is so darn clear?
Then, ask yourself where the Bible EVER refers to the “Bible” -— it does not because it can’t, as no human who wrote the original words, in any Book, ever foresaw that Book being combined with OTHER Books, in any such fashion as the “Bible”.
The Bible is a tool.
The Bible is NOT an Idol to be worshiped.
The Eastern Orthodox Church does not see eye to eye on a few Scriptures, and they split from Rome long ago. Their differences with Rome seem trivial, by today's standards. The Orthodox and the Catholics are pretty close on most issues.
Martin Luther tried to take two Books OUT of the King James, Protestant version of the Bible.
Why? If the Bible is “Perfect” why would the very leader of the Protestant movement want to change the King James version?
And of course, Maccabees was removed from the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox versions of the original Bible, even though many of the Books that were removed from the original Bible had been scriptures available to Jesus in the Temple. Jesus never told us to remove those Scriptures, did He?
Again, you take yourself far too seriously.
God will laugh at all of us for such trivial, silly arguments.
“You take yourself far too seriously, to say that my soul is in danger for not sharing your same view of the Bible.”
Well, you told me twice that God would laugh at me.
And of course, if I was not clear, the King James Version of the Bible removed Books that are contained in the original versions of the Bible, still used by Catholics and the Orthodox.
Oh, missed the end of your last post; three times.
“Why? If the Bible is Perfect why would the very leader of the Protestant movement want to change the King James version?”
I am not sure that Luther is ‘the” leader of the Protestant movement.
I think, because I guess you are a Roman Catholic, that you look for one leader (like a Pope).
There are many leaders of the Protestant movement. Luther certainly is one, but so is Wycliff, most definitely, and Zwingli, and Calvin of course, and Knox. Cromwell was certainly a leader, David Livingstone, really I could go on for a long time.
I don’t look to them for everything. I say they are leaders because historically they were part of great turning points in church history, helping certain heresies get thrown out or doing extraordinary missionary work or overthrowing great tyrants of the church.
Anyway, Luther made errors. His apparent hatred of the Jews is one. His desire to take two books out of the Bible was another. Where he errs, I will not follow. I put no man on a pedastal, I hope, except Jesus Himself.
2Pe 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
2Pe 3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
It's pretty clear that at some point, there was a different set of heavens than now exists...This couldn't have been Noah's flood...
And a different race of beings? God's previous experiment number 41?
Open your eyes look up, and see the starlight from billions of years ago, and believe God created it, and he isn't trying to fool us into believing in an old universe, it is an old universe not some recent magical place that appeared 6,000-10,000 years ago.
You make perfect sense. Acknowledging the amazing vastness of the real universe is more truthful and spiritual than all the vain attempts to shrink reality into some small box of mindless myth and superstition.
I don't get much into that...I do know what the scriptures say...
I just let the scientists do the research...They've dug up old bones of creatures they claim are human but can't make the DNA connection to any of us...
How many times did Genesis tell us that God made his new creation after its own kind???
So, God didn't create the world in 6 days?
your gap theory fails as it denies Romans 5 which say that death came into the world THROUGH ADAM. If there were millions of years before Adam, what happened? Did those creatures die?
If there was death before Adam's sin, your theory denies both that sin & death entered through Adam's sin and the purpose of Christ's sacrifice
2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
New heavens...New earth...Judgment of ungodly men...
Cronos, you take a stab at a few verses and then go off into a tirade that has nothing in it but insults, void of any biblical reference...
Romans 5 has nothing to do with what might have been before Gen. 1:2...
I find your logic to be illogical...
