There is the Catholic Church and then some 35,000 other “Christian” religious sects each purporting to authoritatively carry on the “Great Commission” given by The Christ:

“All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth. Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” (Mt. 28:18-20)

We have seen today the utter collapse of the Anglican and Lutheran Churches that were fruits of heresy and apostasy and their lesser samplings in the form of an unknown number of Evangelical mushrooms.

The issue is not how many that swim the tiber.. the answer is simple.. they are not saved..and unsaved people always look to make their god as they like him ...so they go to Catholicism or Buddhism or hinduism or Islam or the mormons or wherever the god that meets their idea of what or who god is fits..

As I said before Sal.. we are not concerned with numbers.. the tares are free to bundle where they choose.. "many are called but few are chosen "

Should the Holy Spirit lead the to repent and believe they will leave the wherever and find a church that has a high view of God and a high view of scripture,in other words a protestant church.

To those that go where ever I wish them a happy and prosperous life.. because this is the greatest joy they will ever have

I wonder if a number of these conversions are because some who walk with Christ feel that alot of Protestant denominations are leaning more secular and liberal with each passing year (due, possibly - or probably, to the influence of those who infiltrate mainline churches in the hope of undermining them), and want to belong to a "stronger" church that won't bend with the prevailing political winds.

I believe firmly that liberals, socialists, fascists, and communists are bent on turning Christian denominations into their version of what a church should be; that is, subservient to the all-powerful federal government, and marginalize those who hold fast to the Christian beliefs that have held sway for 2000 years. Jesus said we would be persecuted. Looks like it is starting to come to pass.

For however much this is true, many more have left Catholicism to go Evangelical over the past decades. And because now a measurable number are going to God via Rome doesn’t mean there is no outflow to the E-churches.

I do not understand how anyone who truly understands the Reformation, and is a faithful student of the Bible, can convert (Cross the Tiber) to Roman Catholicism. I have been a minister for over 30 years, and have never been further aaway from that idea than I am now. It is mystifying!

How do you go from a system of salvation by Grace, to a system of salvation by works?

My wife and I both made this journey about 20 years ago.

I was raised in “Church of Christ” she was a former Baptist.

It is encouraging to see others who have done this for theological purity rather than just to get married, which in my experience is the majority of ‘converts’.

Nice article. Before I get caught up in the usual ice-cold quixotic doctored stuff that will inevitable get game cooked when the usual suspects enter this thread, I'll put in my calmer two cents:

orthodoxy (the Apostolic Church) is where you can use your heart and head to read your way into the Church. If you get turned off by the speak in sham tongues etc. groups, you come to orthodoxy and learn the truth

However, there are many people who are not the reading types, many simple, yet devout people. The Church has always reached out to these and still does, but not in as visceral a way as the singing and dancing crews do. Sing yes!

We are the CATHOLIC Church -- we should allow for both these types of people to find their way to The Church. I think The Church does this to some extent in Asia and Africa, but is too dry in America.

That doesn't mean we should become poofy and all-show-no-content like the denominations but we need to have more community outreach, more SCC - Small Christian Communities initiatives, more Youth centered organisations run by the youth themselves.

The onus is on US, The Church to do this as we always have since the time of Christ.

Only intellectuals can convert to Catholicism as adults. Otherwise you have to be raised in it.

Any religion that can't convert simple people isn't a universal religion.

We Catholics can only benefit from this infusion of converts who loved God, His Word, and objective Truth enough to walk the path to us.

These will be thinking individuals who examine the Word closely enough to see the real truth. They will, by default, be conservative Catholics, in my opinion.

The poor Catholics who leave for other religions are simply the weak, ignorant, or willful ones. The churches they enter may have enough to offer to heal their hurts; but they’ll never have the fullness of the Truth or the Eucharist. They’ll certainly think they’re happier, because they can now feel sure they are “saved” even as they interpret the rules to their own personal satisfaction.

The gate is narrow and the path to it has not changed since the time of the Apostles. Some seed falls on good soil, takes root, but then withers or is snatched away by birds.

I thank God for all the new converts who have discovered the fulfillment the Eucharist can bring. It is all about the Eucharist, as we learned in John 6.
