Suppose a mere 5% of the entire population of NYC decides they want a permit. Where are you going to efficiently test and train 400,000 people? This would never be an issue. 50% of the people who live in New York City are convicted violent felons and therefore wouldn't be able to get a permit anyway. Another 40% are recent immigrants who are either here illegally or could never pass a background check due to lack of verifiable information from their home country. Of the remaining 10% (about 800,000 people), I'd say that 95% of them are liberal wussies who would rather vote for Pat Buchanan than assume the responsibilities of gun ownership.
That leaves about 4,000 people, by my reckoning. 3,995 of them are law enforcement officers and already carry guns anyway, so that leaves just five.
One of those five was just assassinated at City Hall today, another was arrested on the subway this morning for taking up two seats, and a third was a smoker who just moved out of New York.
So that leaves just you and me.
I'll see ya at the range.

And then went into an anti-smoker tirade and on and on about how some bar and restaurant owners claim to be hurting because of the ban and tempers tend to fly over smoking issues.Total baloney. I was watching at the time, and he said nothing of the sort.
Look, I too am opposed to the stupid smoking bans and unfair demonization of smokers, but you actually hurt your cause by exaggerating and similarly unfairly smearing others. About as counterproductive as the dolts who toss their cigarettes butts on the street, sidewalk, grass, etc.

Charge them a fee and build the infrastructure to train them.At $10 a piece you couldn't even afford to build thenm a parking space. At $100 a pop, you could probably buy a couple acres on the dump on Staten Island.

I stated specifically that he was quoting from the AP regarding the rally.
I also stated that the rally is TOMORROW - his information was WRONG and so he should not have been speculating anything about it at all.
I will repeat again there was no rally scheduled for today - it is TOMORROW.
A correction to that wrong information should have been made.
Having been an on air reporter I know exactly how he is getting his information - it is called rip-n-read - and corrections should be made when there has been mininformation provided.
He stated the rally was today - I wonder if people heard that and may think they missed the rally and don't bother attending tomorrow.
We are talking major market network news here, not small town first jobs - they should ALL know better.

shep was only pointing out about the protest across the street....he has nothing to retract...
he would be amiss if he didn't mention any civil protests going on or possible hostilities going on, wouldn't he?

"What I'm gathering from reports is this:
A white guy, who is black or hispanic, shot Davis and somebody else, was then shot and killed by Davis, then he was shot and wounded by a plain clothes detective, then he escaped unharmed in the ensuing melee, and Bloomberg is reporting that democracy is dead."
You are 100% correct per current reports.
FYI: Bloomberg is going to hold a press conference. That ought to be good. Then we'll have more clarity on the matter. I want my democracy back!

OK, how about I offer a retraction to a portion of my post#643. He did discuss the issue of the smoking ban, as you stated. I should have been clear that what I take issue with you about was the characterization of his discussion as an "anti-smoking tirade".
