SUPPORT OUR TROOPS - Patriots Rally for America IV - Saturday, March 1, 2003, Washington, D.C.
DC Chapter of Free Republic ^ | February 18, 2003 | Angelwood and Kristinn

Posted on 02/18/2003 8:35:34 PM PST by Angelwood

This is important. Drop what you’re doing. Pack the car, get on a plane, a train, a bus or start walking. Our troops need your support right now! They’re laying it on the line for us overseas and all they are seeing in the media is hundreds of thousands of anti-war/anti-American demonstrators marching in our streets.

As evidenced by this article Anti-war Protests Anger U.S. Troops Inside Kuwait those demonstrations are starting to affect morale. You can do something about that, but it will take time, effort and sacrifice -- a modest sacrifice compared to our men and women in uniform waiting for the the word to take out Saddam and his tyrannical terrorist regime.

The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic urges all FReepers and lurkers in good standing, as well as their friends and families, veterans and their friends and families and all others who want to stand up for America and support our troops to join us in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, March 1, 2003 for the Patriots Rally for America IV from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m at the outdoor Sylvan Theater on the grounds of the Washington Monument.

As the United States prepares to take the next step in the war on terrorism with probable action in Iraq, it is imperative that we get out and show support for our troops, our Commander-in-Chief and all that’s good about America.

Our troops are there to give their lives if necessary in order to prevent another 9-11 from happening to us. Now more than ever, they need to see your support back home. Please don’t let them down.

We are asking you to bring large American and Gadsden flags. Also, signs bearing messages supporting America, our troops, our Commander-in-Chief and the war on terrorism.

That same day, anti-American leftists will be holding an "anti-war" rally and march in D.C. The "anti-war" rally, organized by IAC-A.N.S.W.E.R. , a front group for the communist World Workers Party, will be held on the Mall near the Capitol Building between 3rd Street and 7th Street, N.W. The organizers have permitted other sites as staging areas for many in their group to assemble and then march to the main event. Some of these staging areas include: Constitution Gardens by the Vietnam War Memorial, the Northeast quadrant of the Washington Monument, and Freedom Plaza at 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.

Another group has plans to assemble in the DuPont Circle area and march to Constitution Avenue, N.W. between 17th and 23rd Streets.

We do not expect any trouble from those groups. Law enforcement officers will be everywhere to keep the peace and ensure that everyone’s rights are respected.

As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for demonstrating will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no racism, no profanity, no threats, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.

When: Saturday, March 1, 2003 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., rain or shine.

Where: The Sylvan Theater, located on the south side of the Washington Monument grounds at Independence Avenue and 15th Street, S.W.

We gave away I'd say at least 2,000 leaflets on fertile ground. We're cold, our voices are hoarse, and there's just no way I'm going out to do more leafletting tonight! : ) Tgsl, it went *really* well.

Another super effort! You're soaring to new heights!

"We" gave them away. It was definitely a team thing.

Leafletting is *not* a waste of time if you go to places where there are conservatives, it turns out.

See you tomorrow!

True story: today we gave out a leaflet to someone at one location who laughed and reported that she saw us last night at a different location (across town at the MCI Arena) and we gave her a leaflet there!!

LOL - in this big city we got to someone twice!! :)

Giving new meaning to "grassroots" conservatism. DC Freepers are HARD CORE!

VOLUNTEER NEEDED: We need someone to post updates from the field for our live thread tomorrow. Our previous volunteer has decided to attend the rally instead! You need (1) to Freepmail me your cellphone and (2) be available to post updates 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. EST. It's hard but rewarding work. Any takers?

Tomorrow, Kristinn and Angelwood may be very busy. If someone has a minor question or needs something done, let's try not to delegate "up" to them. Let's try to, whenever possible, lighten their load and prevent them from taking on too many administrative tasks or having to answer questions that someone else could just as easily answer. When the rally starts, hopefully they'll be kept free to deal with the speakers and the press, maybe even hear some of the rally this time!

We remember you. We've got the date and location of your rally Sunday on our list.

We intend to announce from the stage about other rallies in other cities, including yours, and if CSPAN covers it, maybe that will give your rally a bump.

You're on our list. These coalitions work! Checked out your website today, BTW: great website.

It's a good thing you took a cab home. ;>)

She better give it back. At least that's my advice.

Oh, no, I know you were sincere, I didn't mean my last post as anything other than cheerful. (LOL, it's *hard* to communicate in cyberspace.) No one's ever suggested leafletting was a waste of time. I think I wrote that because when I started doing it, *I* was worried it would be. But it hasn't turned out to be. No, we're cool.

LOL!

There is always the 10% that do not get the word!

chicagolady, rface and I showed up at Metrocenter to leaflet the hordes of Lisa Minelli admirers at about 6:50 PM (1+10 before show time), and there was no one there!

No FReepers, no crowds, a few stragglers up and down the METRO escalators, one drunk panhandler and two of WDCs finest in a squad car.

So, we leafletted everyone who came within range, but they were few and far between -- I mean there was nobody going to MCI tonight!

"Lisa is in big trouble" I thought -- "What if she came to sing, and no one came to listen to her?"

LOL! Finally, at about 7:45 or so, we found out that the show was cancelled!

The good news is that we handed out about 200 or so leaflets before we packed it in.

There is no bad news! We had a ball!

I may have even convinced a nice lady that I spent 10 or so minutes talking to that going into Iraq to take out Saddam Hussein was a good idea. I reminded her that the monumental lapse of judgement the world showed towards Hitler in the late 1930's led to about 50,000,000 needless deaths, and that if we let Saddam Hussein stay alive, the results could be even more catastrophic than that.

She promised to reconsider her position, and said she would attend the Rally tomorrow. I do hope she shows up.

With that win (she is the one who told me that Liza cancelled), we abandoned MetroCenter and went to dinner.

Ow!! LOL. Points for trying. :) That's a funny story and you seem to have a good sense of humor about it. Something I'm trying to regain this evening ... if anyone finds my sense of humor, please give it back to me, OK?
