DID I ASK TO BE ON YOUR PING LIST?

Apologies for the vanity post. But I want to rant a bit.
In the past few months, ping lists have proliferated to the point of annoyance. And it is especially irksome to find oneself on a list without having requested inclusion.
There's a word for this: .
Ponder this question, Chester: Did I ask to be on your #%&@ing ping list? No? Well, then. Draw the logical conclusion. If I wish to be on your ping list, rest assured you'll be the first to know. But while you wait with bated breath for my entreaty to be a party to your wisdom, I'll thank you not to make the assumption that I consider your blog indispensable.
Personally, I'd like to see pinging stopped entirely, via the placing of a limit on the number of people a post may be directed to -- preferably one, but no more than five, in my opinion. But failing that, it should at least be the case that unsolicited spam has no place on Free Republic.

Yeah, neither do I.

All you have to do is to go to the "brief" version in your settings on your comments page and the graphics won't load unless you click on it.

So your goal is to read at FR and be more aware? Kinda like being one of the choir. OK by me if thats what you use FR for. Some of us are activists and organize regularly on FR.

How about separating pings from "my comments?"
Is that doable?
To: JeanS
"I've asked to be on some ping lists and I've asked to be removed from some others. A friendly request to be removed usually works." Exactly. All you need do is send a "freep-mail", and your request is honored.
There's no need to make a big deal about this. We're all friends.
To: southernnorthcarolina
Sometimes if people see you on a few threads that are similar, they will assume that they can ping you to like ones in the future. A simple FReepmail will usually remove you.
You of course realize that by starting this thread, you have probably put yourself on at least 30 lists by now, right?
To: Nick Danger
Thirded.
To: Free the USA
Thanks for your ping, but I've already seen this story and have already posted on the thread. Please remove me from your ping list.

Agree, Someone put me on the California doink list and have 15 new comments with these CA alerts.
I don't need to be reminded that Gray Davis is a freaking moron 15 times a day.
I new that years ago.
To: fuquadukie
Ping lists should be banned. Some people like to be notified of certain threads, especially if they only log on to FR once every few days.
To: sit-rep; alisasny
She meant party as in a bunch of FReepers getting together in a restaurant for the express purpose of indulging in food, drinks and each other's fine company. And she's doing a FANTASTIC job of organizing the whole shebang! :)

Well you weren't the first to express an opinion about the ping list...... The first may have been Aurthur McGowan but I can't find the link... but here are a few others.... PINGS AWAY

Free Republic Threads | January 15, 2002 | Myself It seems there is a sudden upswing in ping list. Please don't take me wrong I'm on a few of them and I enjoy them. However when a person starts recieving whole list pings to a same thread 4 times for that same thread then I consider that to be abuse. Most of us in here if we want off a ping list do so by posting the request in the thread and the issue is then settled. The person may have many reasons for doing so like getting pings to topics they do not want to pinged to. In ...

July 12, 2002 | EggsAckley Every morning I turn on my computer and head for FreeRepublic. Until recently, I might find an email or two, and perhaps a comment that came in after I had turned of the computer for the night. Now, when I see the MY COMMENTS highlighted, I am amazed to find a dozen or more new articles which have been sent to me via *ping* lists. I know of only two lists to which I requested to to be added, but now it seems I am on fifteen or twenty. And most of them are topics that are not really something...

E.G.C. I was just informaed by American Perservitive that it was Monaco, NOT Morraco.Needless that error because it was in the lead post resulted in the deletion of that discussion. For that I apologize. The discussion has been about the bump and ping lists and why some people find these lists to be of value. It recived over 15 responses in it's original thread.Unfortunately I did not print out the original article so I can't offhand remember what was said but Nonetheless we will go ahead and continue with this discussion with part 2.Bump for more responses.FREE TED MAHER NOW!!!!
