Monthly Donors. Important Notice.

FR has changed the donation site and all monthly donors who wish to continue should re-input their information on the new site. Badjoe last ran the FR support monthlies September 20th. It is now October 21 so you are now out of danger of being hit twice in one month. : )

If you have not gone to the new site and re-entered your information your monthly has stopped.

Now I know you don't want that to happen it, so please go HERE to re-up.

The next Freepathon will come sooner and last longer if you don't do this now.

Please Freepmail Badjoe or e-mail him at Badjoe@socal.rr.com with your real name after you have done this so he can remove you from the old file.

He will email all those who do not contact him to remind them or inform them that there is a new system and they need to re-up if they wish to continue their monthly. The fewer people he has to email the easier it will be.

Badjoe's primary concern-job-goal has always been to keep FR financially healthy. That is where all his energies have gone. Just because he is no longer managing the fundraising doesn't mean he is just walking away. This thread is a reminder to the monthly donors to re-up. The monthlies were run on the 20th of each month. Today is the 21st of the month and it's time to re-up now.

Once everyone has re-upped, Joe will email whoever is left. Then, his job will be completed.

No, you nut! LOL. This is only for monthly contributors who use the convenience of the secure server for credit card donations, paypal, stuff like that. Cash and money orders are waaay out of Badjoe's league.

Sounds to me like anyone who didn't follow Joe's request to hold off the re-upping until after October 20th might have brought that on themselves. Just another good reason to post a thread in an abundance of caution.

I realize Texasforever alleged some vendetta against Bush Supporters engineered by Badjoe with a view toward leaking personal information to the "anti-TIPS" agents.

While that was without a doubt the most absurd Conspiracy Theory I've ever seen floated on this forum in the over 4 years I've been around, perhaps you're seeking to poke folks with that particular Fine Point?

As of yesterday, the monthlies were handled expressly and exclusively by the site. I think it behooves Joe to remind folks at this juncture that he's no longer the go-to guy in this regard. Any messed up payments as of yesterday are not his problem.

And, Terilyn, while I too remember Jim's telling Badjoe to "just destroy the records", I'm certain that upon reflection he realized that was an ill-considered comment. The destruction of such records would not only reflect poorly on this site's and Badjoe's ability to conduct business in a professional fashion, it would leave a cloud of suspicion where their orderly and meticulous records should be for future reference at least a few years hence.

I'm not an accountant or businessman but I'm certain there are several around who could vouch for the fact that those to whom the records have been entrusted all this time still are responsible for the integrity of the books barring some express transfer of legal liability for same.

I think it the height of irresponsibility for folks who have nothing to do with the business and bookkeeping of the site to be clogging up this simple and straightforward thread with the usual Soap Opera "long-shot" intrigue.

Not to put too fine a point on it but this isn't a public corporation, the books are none of your business and Badjoe's upfront criticisms of the site and of Jim are not exactly the actions of a petty cretin who would stoop to breaching confidences, sussing out or passing around folks' personal information in some effort to damage the site for which he's worked so hard for so long.

Now who's not paying attention. The ONLY way that could happen would be if Joe submitted the credit card numbers HE has this month, too, which he specifically said he wasn't going to do.

The way I understood the announcement during the FReepathon, monthly donors were to wait until October 20 to sign up for the new system or they would pay twice between 9/20 and 10/20 .... once under Joe's system and once under the new system.

Because FReepers are busy people, it was said at the time that a reminder would be sent out to try to see to it that all the monthlies got transferred to the new system. BADJOE agreed to help out with the transition and would notify those who had not switched yet. He can only do that if he has a list and marks off the names of those he has heard from, then notifies the remaining donors so they have the opportunity to continue their contributions. Otherwise many contributions will be dropped simply because FReepers forget to transfer them to the new system.

There would be no automatic transfer of monthlies but the donors would have to enter completely new transactions under the new system. Those who don't take this step will no longer be donating to FR.

Is that correct?

And the purpose of this thread is to try to get the word out so that BADJOE doesn't have to personally email the 300 people who haven't yet switched .... right?

I see this as yet another service that BADJOE is performing for FR even as he gives up a responsibility that he had taken on voluntarily and performed so well.

The reason is to try to make sure everyone on the old list that wants on the new list gets there.

If I did nothing FR could lose thousands in monthlies.

This effort is to try to keep the monthly donations up to par.

When it is all done, then I will destroy the old file.

but Joe's behavior in recent months, including his refusal a couple of months ago to shred the credit card records when Jim Robinson asked him publicly to do so, is one reason some people are now leery of using credit cards to donate.

I know from experience it's impossible for some of the folks around here to wrap their rigid little minds around the fact that folks who've been around for years can criticize the site and even the leadership without seeking to damage the place or "hating" and wanting to "destroy" individuals.

I for one am sick of you and your fellows who perpetuate this absurd notion that Badjoe is now untrustworthy simply for his expressing -- in no uncertain terms -- his displeasure with the direction of the site or his criticisms of the moderator system. All of which criticisms were made in public, on the forum and with a view toward the site's continued growth and retention of the longtime members being bled off to other sites and withdrawing their financial support.

The question is, why are the old records still out there?

The plan has always been to email those who don't know about the new system. When people let Badjoe know they've reupped on the new system he can take them off the list of those he has to email.

No. Badjoe no longer runs the credit card program for FR. It is an entirely new system.

If people have renewed on the new system and not told BADJOE why should it matter?

It doesn't matter a great deal if they do not notify Badjoe. He only wants to be able to wipe as many people off his list as possible so he can whittle down how many people he has to email to remind them about the new system.

Well, if you go back and read my post, I expressly asked if BADJOE ran the CC's this month.

I expressly thanked Willa for the reminder (because I had forgotten).

What I wanted to know is if they were run this month, then I'll wait until next month. If not, then I'll do it. If they weren't run this month and BADJOE isn't going to run them ever again, then why hold on to them?

Does that clear up my question?

Before I used my credit card to donate during this past fundraiser, I was assured that only four people here on FreeRepublic - and employees of the credit card processing company - would have access to my personal information and credit card number. BADJOE was not one of those people.

Satisfied with that scenario, I used my credit card to donate. Now you have me curious:

Does BADJOE have access to my credit card information?
