Placed under breaking news to get someone's attention. Okay, it's been a few days - weeks if you include the "Sunday Morning Talk Show Thread 4 January 2026". Pretty sure there's been a lot more breaking news since then. Any chance someone can update this?

Breaking News has ALWAYS been for day old news, FReepathons and Sunday Morning Talk Show Threads.
Been this way for decades.
What’s changed? Now they don’t even bump off the Sunday Morning threads and the FReepathon thread is 2 weeks old.
Not sure why. I’m also not sure why FR piddles with any and all Forums in the first place. What the point?

John and Chris need to clean up this place. No major changes, mind you. Just deal with the silly, useless and unused forums.

Hard to believe anyone capable of critical thought would still be watching that BS lie fest...And they put it in “Breaking News”?

It's possible that posters became gun-shy and no longer tag things as breaking due to this, and the long-time trusted posters who used to post to Breaking News have since passed on.

The Sunday morning talk show thread is where we pick apart and analyze the propaganda that the major networks relay after the DNC writes it on Saturdays, and compare that to REAL reporting from Sunday Morning Futures, One America and other investigative journalists.
Primary contributors ‘Alas Babylon’, ‘bray’ and ‘rodguy911’ are very knowledgeable and always provide a larger perspective than this mere mortal can discern on his own.
My personalized “settings” do not show a sidebar at all.
So I don’t know what is placed in “Breaking News”.
I prefer to see everything.
I agree, it's a mess now.
Gee, perhaps because that thread has been going for 30 years? You would think FReepers would run out of things to complain about eventually? Most negative place on the web.
What for? I'm sure most members here don't care what category any post is in. I sure don't.....,.In fact, I think my filter is "Everything", as it should be......or maybe it's not, I really don't care.
I just scan, some interest me, some don’t.
I just go with everything. I don’t know why they bothered chopping things into pieces.
Breaking News is rarely breaking news. Doesn’t make much sense. On the other hand, most breaking news here broke a day or two ago on X.

Yep. I posted an earthquake thread while the ground was still shaking.
It got nuked. I got scolded.
Oh yeah. This site and all the associated links were slopped together some 26 years ago. I doubt it made sense then and it certainly makes no sense now.
Certainly, I’m not calling for drastic changes because the majority of us like the way things have been done for the last quarter of a century or longer, but cleaning up unnecessary links, forums, and other useless data would make this site look a whole lot smarter.
I always thought that after Jim passed on to his heavenly reward that Chris and John would bring this site into the 21st-century. But evidently not.
I thought that, too. But the same neglect.
Oh, well. At least they keep it running, it’s simple, no ads (the way we like it), and outages are few and short. But I’ve always wondered about the “Smoky Back Room.”
Smoky Back Room is where fights and conspiracy related threads were sent. As fighting and goofy comments took over the threads rather than digging and offering facts and todays conspiracies increasingly proved to be yesterdays facts there was no reason for it.
