RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — President Trump urged Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa to sign the Abraham Accords in a previously unplanned meeting on Wednesday, one day after lifting all sanctions on the Middle Eastern country.
The two leaders met on the sidelines of a Gulf Cooperation Council gathering in Riyadh, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan phoning into the conversation.
Syria currently doesn’t recognize Israel’s statehood, and the Abraham Accords were just one of Trump’s requests to Syria in an effort to normalize relations.
Trump also told the Syrian leader to make all foreign terrorists leave Syria, deport Palestinian terrorists, help the US prevent the rise of ISIS, and take responsibility for the ISIS detention centers in northeast Syria, per the White House.
Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria led to a standing ovation from Saudi leaders and businessmen at an investment forum on Tuesday.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
sanctions off
sanctions on
syrian leader’s choice
And if he doesn’t? Will he meet the same fate as the prior, Christian-protecting ruler?
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa was not elected. He was appointed as president by the General Command of Syria during the Syrian Revolution Victory Conference.
Not many Freepers seem to care about Arab Christians.
“...recognizing Israel”
They already do. They’ve been trying to kill every Jew on earth for a couple of thousand years. And with their religion, they are willing to die for their God to do it.

Damn Trump. On 9/11 we lost the twin towers. Today Trump is cutting deals with the Al Queda in Damascus.
The American People have a lot of questions to ask of their NEVER ENDING ADMINISTRATION(S). It appears that Al Queda has been a friend of not only Obama/Biden, but now Trump too.
Does anyone see the irony in Syria where we sanctioned the regime for 53 years, only to overthrow it with regime change, and then cut deals to MAKE MONEY by RECONSTRUCTION.
TRUMP IS BEHOLDEN TO THE DEEP STATE.
I think it’s a bit too early to release the sanctions.
Syria is still in flux. There’s a lot that country has to sort out - economically, politically, financially, etc.
Let’s re-visit releasing the sanctions in six months to a year from now.
Yep
(Abraham Accords)
FYI
(Syria is still in flux)
I think so too
LOTSA moving pieces there

So it seems. And the rest come second

WHAT HAPENED TO THAT???

Daddy's home.
Making great deals isn’t done in a straight line. If this can be done, it’ll be done by Trump. Have faith.
Maybe be a little patient. Stopping the killing is worth a try. Trump works like this. Maybe it will flop, maybe not.
If it does not work, then the killing can start again.
Easy
I have noticed that all of us have certain things that we demand. We all want them now. And we don’t get it when Trump doesn’t do exactly what we want at the moment.
I will admit to doing that myself over an issue or two. Trump is not Deep State. Trump is not for war when he can make peace.
Yup. Bold move. I hope it works.
To a prior pearl-clutcher: the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results. Trump thinks outside the box, and (Democrats might be amazed to learn that) he is an inveterate pragmatist.
If the Syrian dude signs on to the Abraham Accords, Trump should be a shoe-in for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Good move. Give Syria a chance to be a decent country. I’ll not hold my breath, however.
If Trump is successful in getting more Arab nations to recognize Israel, that’s Nobel Prize level success.
