Six Druze villages, in the portion of the Golan Heights occupied by what was formerly Syria, have reportedly decided to request that Israel annex their village.
Many have family and friends in the many existing and very successful Druze communities in Israel, where they enjoy the benefits of citizenship, including civil rights, freedom of speech and religion and equal protection under the law. Is it any wonder that they would like to join them and become a part of Israel?
If Israel accepts this proposal, then the US and other nations should approach the matter with moral clarity and rightly support such a union. To do otherwise is to abandon the residents of these innocent Druze villages to possible annihilation by their enemies in post-Assad Syria.
The residents of South Lebanon and the embattled Kurds might also consider this possibility. A territory voluntarily surrendering its sovereignty and allowing itself to be absorbed is not prohibited acquisition of territory by use of force in a war of aggression and conquest.

With Trump’s coming inaugural the US would surely officially recognize that union… just as Trump officially recognized the rest of the Golan Heights as an integral part of Israel.
I’ve heard my Muse,
So that’s the news,
it’s not a ruse,
gotta pay your dues
to protect the Druze,
if you snooze you lose,
so put down the booze,
shake off the wooze,
put on your shoes,
lose those blues
and connect the clues.
I’ve been to a Druze village in Israel. They are fiercely loyal to Israel.
Non-possible ‘cause Druze be a-rab!
Druze are not a-rab.
There is a sizable Arab Christian community in Haifa. On Sunday, every shop is closed. They have a huge, stone church with writing in Arabic across the front. They have boy scout meetings there. Plenty of Jews speak Arabic as their first language, because they grew up in Egypt, Yemen, Morocco, Iraq or Syria. Should we watch our backs from them, too?

If I were in one of those villages, I’d want to avoid being ruled over by that rabble of Salafist headchoppers and would gladly be ruled over by the Israelis instead. There are actually mixed feelings among the people there, though, at least there were three days ago. It’s all moot anyway because Israel has already taken over the area.
On a side note: When Israel takes a bite out of a neighboring country and wants a buffer zone for security, it’s good. When Russia does it, even if the people living there want it, it’s really, really bad.
Not that I blame Israel for taking an extra nibble out of the corpse of Syria. Turkey is starting to nibble away at the north. Things could get interesting up there.
That’s quite poetic.
Thank you.
But like the Baháʼí they do not have as their central tenet to kill everyone who does not agree with them.
So as neighbors they are quite acceptable.
That is one of the first things I look for in a countryman, that they don't want to murder the rest of us.
From Wikipedia:
The Druze (/druːz/ DROOZ;[19] Arabic: دَرْزِيّ, darzī or دُرْزِيّ durzī, pl. دُرُوز, durūz), who call themselves al-Muwaḥḥidūn (lit. ‘the monotheists’ or ‘the unitarians’), are an Arab esoteric religious group from West Asia who adhere to the Druze faith, an Abrahamic, monotheistic, and syncretic religion whose main tenets assert the unity of God, reincarnation, and the eternity of the soul.
Although the Druze faith developed from Isma’ilism, Druze do not identify as Muslims. They maintain Arabic language and culture as integral parts of their identity, with Arabic being their primary language. Most Druze religious practices are kept secret, and conversion to their religion is not permitted for outsiders. Interfaith marriages are rare and strongly discouraged. They differentiate between spiritual individuals, known as “uqqāl”, who hold the faith’s secrets, and secular ones, known as “juhhāl”, who focus on worldly matters. Druze believe that, after completing the cycle of rebirth through successive reincarnation.
So Israel might as well as annex Syrian Druze villages adjacent to Golan Heights.
The Druze are very special and would be great additions.
It was a joke.
Yes, they are:
Are members of the Druze religious community ethnically arab?

Yes, members of the Druze religious community are generally considered ethnically Arab. The Druze are an ethnoreligious group that originated in the Levant region, primarily in modern-day Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Israel. The Druze religion emerged in the 11th century as an offshoot of Ismaili Islam, but over time it developed its own distinct beliefs and practices.
While the Druze have a unique religious identity, they share a common Arab cultural and linguistic heritage. Most Druze people speak Arabic and identify with Arab culture, but their religious practices and community organization set them apart from mainstream Muslim groups. Therefore, ethnically, the Druze are considered Arabs, but their religious identity is separate from the broader Islamic community.

I’d make a great straight guy.
I don’t care what muslims do, so long as they are not committed to murder me.
But they are. So I’m keenly interested.
You have to be.
When people say their desire is to kill me I tend to believe them. It is a survival trait.
