The death toll from catastrophic flooding in the Asheville area of western North Carolina more than tripled on Monday to 35 — as survivors in remote mountain towns described seeing the bodies of victims stuck in trees.
Nationwide, there have been 120 fatalities from Hurricane Helene, which has cut a path of death and destruction across the Southeast since making landfall last Thursday.
The rains smashed the mountains of Buncombe County, which contains Asheville, washing away whole communities in floodwaters and mudslides. Roadways were buried or washed away, leaving victims cut off from rescue crews.
“There were bodies in trees. They were finding bodies under rubble,” said Alyssa Hudson, whose home of Black Mountain — a village of 8,400 people about 12 miles from Asheville — was all but washed away.

LOL! Asheville is so progressive ANTIFA feels right at home!
Thank you for posting the link to Samaritans Purse. They are a wonderful charity.
Also, when that mud dries, it becomes very fine dust. That dust gets everywhere. Everywhere.
I've been through a flood and have a hard time looking at these photos. These people had it much much worse.

We had wildfires here on the Central Oregon Coast in 2020. Churches of Christ Disaster Relief arrived promptly with a semi-truck loaded with everything that people could need: non-perishable food, cleaning and sanitary supplies, sheets, towels, baby items, brand new clothing, shoes and socks. They even provided shovels and wheelbarrows. They were on site for three months distributing to all in need. I was blessed to be part of the local volunteer group through the Church of Christ that I attend. This group truly does God’s work.
Not Asheville. My gay niece lived in New Mexico for thirty years decided she wanted a more “diverse” and liberal community. She researched and moved to Asheville and after eight months she couldn’t take it anymore, said it was freaky liberal and way too much for her. She left and has become a Republican.
Chimney Rock, Black Mountain, and Old Fort appear to have been hit pretty hard.
I have family in Asheville and Hendersonville. They are doing OK, fortunately.
I heard on the radio that President Trump called on Elon Musk if they can bring in his Skylink or whatever Elon calls it over to the ravage cities so families and friends can communicate. Back at the Clown House...Biden stated that he was on the phone with coordinators at the damage sites. Huh? How in the hell he spoke with them on the phone when all communications were gone? Did they use a tin can with a string attach?
Prayers
Soo sad.
Probably several decades and generations to repair.
It’s Biden. He could have been talking to the voices in his head. Or his imaginary friends. Only kind he’s got.
“Um.
Death toll TRIPLED.
To 35.
Public education victims can always rely on regime media for jobs, I guess.”

The death toll is just getting started. There’s nothing amusing about any of this.
What communications? Powers out, no cell phone towers, no passible roads.
People will recall this flood disaster as Hurricane Helene but in fact two thirds of the rain fell before Hurricane Helene even passed central FL on its way to landfall. The cause of the prolonged heavy rainfall was a stalled frontal boundary. Rainfall totals in n FL and s GA were more directly attributable to the hurricane. Three days of heavy rain at Asheville NC for example:
Wed Sep 25 _ 4.09”
Thu Sep 26 _ 5.78”
Fri Sep 27 _ 4.11”
(landfall was o/n 26-27)
I have family in NC, but we are not as close as I would like. I hope they are well.
