The death toll from catastrophic flooding in the Asheville area of western North Carolina more than tripled on Monday to 35 — as survivors in remote mountain towns described seeing the bodies of victims stuck in trees.
Nationwide, there have been 120 fatalities from Hurricane Helene, which has cut a path of death and destruction across the Southeast since making landfall last Thursday.
The rains smashed the mountains of Buncombe County, which contains Asheville, washing away whole communities in floodwaters and mudslides. Roadways were buried or washed away, leaving victims cut off from rescue crews.
“There were bodies in trees. They were finding bodies under rubble,” said Alyssa Hudson, whose home of Black Mountain — a village of 8,400 people about 12 miles from Asheville — was all but washed away.

[Bridges gone, railways gone, interstate gone, secondary roads gone, Power grid gone, Communications networks gone. This will take years to repair. The people will essentially be living in the 1800’s for the next several years................]
This means we must send more to Ukraine.
U K R A I ….
Why are people dying? Are they just ignoring warnings? This is so sad.
Dams broke......
i saw a video clip yesterday, not sure where in North Carolina it was at. A guy was on his front porch and filmed the very first rush of water from a flash flood. I swear the water was moving 80-100 M.P.H....not exxagerating. Only 15 seconds long, just jaw dropping.
Samaritans purse.......
It's pretty much river water anywhere; it carries a lot of mud and sewage with it. Storm surge water is ocean water. I haven't had to deal with that, so can't really speak to it.
So sad...
Samaritans Purse. Money goes where it’s needed and they’re always one of the first ones at a destructive event.
Exactly. 'm old enough to remember that on TV. My mom lost everything when another hurricane hit Connecticut in the mid-50s.
I remember Camille well ...so many victims remains were never found sue to the massive mudslides that were over 20-feet deep in the aftermath. We had everything from dead cows to live Timber Rattlers that got swept down the James all the way to Richmond. Considering the increase in population since then and that the area around Asheville is a popular tourist area I fear the death toll just in NC (already 42) could well go higher than Camille in VA (124).
Well the waters there move ‘sand’ around....but then they have to deal with the heat and humidity, bugs and alligators/boa constrictors and other nasty critters known there when they clean up.
Another historically reliable relief group in the area is the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort based in Nashville:

Yep I saw a few of those too.....just wasn’t time to move!
The residents should put up yellow & blue flags...

If Katrina was blamed on Bush...this can easily be blamed on Kamala.
