Kate, Princess of Wales, has revealed she has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing preventative chemotherapy. In a personal message, the 42-year-old said planned abdominal surgery in January was successful and it was initially thought her condition was non-cancerous. But tests after the operation found cancer had been present, she said, adding: "This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family."

The mother of George, Charlotte and Louis said doctors had advised her to have a course of preventative chemotherapy and she is currently in the early stages of that treatment.

Abdominal surgery suggests perhaps ovarian cancer? Pray that it isn’t pancreatic cancer.

So she’ll lose her hair and request not to be seen?

This was my thought as well. Tumor has to be tested and that takes some time. They do some testing during the surgery but you have to wait for the full work up. Can’t remember how long it takes. Thankfully mine was clear.

What is preventative chemo versus regular chemo?

She’s more down to Earth than to worry about her hair right now. But she probably won’t be ‘seen’ because chemo makes you sick and tired.

Strikes the high and mighty, low and lowly, and everone in between, with zero discrimination. Too bad our countries squander gazillions on garbage...like green initiatives..instead of conquering this evil curse. Right Charles and Joe?

There has been a lot of progress in treatment for various cancers; many more people survive now.

So. I feel for her, but that’s not US news, not our concern. Bet she’s getting better treatment than her family’s subjects.

abdominal could mean colon cancer, which is unfortunately common in younger people these days..its no longer the above 50 disease to watch out for

Yes, let’s be hopeful. Even about 12 percent of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survive more than five years. That is an improvement. since it wasn’t that long ago that it was 2%. Hopefully it is a less deadly form and was caught early. Sometimes chemotherapy is given to attempt to shrink a tumor to a more manageable size and then try again to remove it surgically. Prayers.

After my beautiful niece who eventually died of brain cancer had numerous surgeries which disfigured her skull and of course, hair loss. She refused a wig, saying “God gave me the gift of beauty, now he wants my soul to be more beautiful and stronger than my body, then added….”HAIR IS OVERRATED ANYWAY”. LOL

Ovarian cancer is bad enough. It is seldom caught early because early in its progression it often has no symptoms.
