A New York judge on Tuesday found former President Trump liable for fraud, handing a major legal victory to New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) in her sprawling civil case over Trump’s businesses.
New York Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron granted James’s request to find Trump liable for the first of seven causes of action she has accused him of in the lawsuit.
Engoron simultaneously denied Trump’s demand to toss the entire suit without trying the case. The non-jury trial on the remaining matters is set to begin Monday, barring Trump’s separate, last-minute effort for a delay.
Engoron also granted James’s request to sanction five of Trump’s lawyers for bringing up already-dismissed arguments in court, ordering them to pay a $7,500 fine each.

One architectural plan shows the measurements to the exterior of the original foundation wall. The title document only includes the measurements to the interior of the foundation wall. One document clearly excludes a part of the building that was once an exterior patio area but was enclosed decades ago and is now part of the building. The most idiotic one of all basically says 10 plus 10 plus 10 plus 10 equals 30 — as if the entire top floor of the building doesn’t exist.
You really think that banks don’t do their own due diligence when making loans to an owner of a property with an estimated value of $500,000,000? You really think banks are as gullible as you seem to be when posting articles from CNN, AP and The Hill?
For commercial real estate, lenders typically care less about the size of the property than the lease revenue.
And I would never criticize Obama for this nonsense, because I am totally objective to the point of being OCD about things related to legal and financial matters. I could have been a lawyer or CPA in another life.
Correct or correct. We have no more statues in Virginia.
When this story first hit the news, one big item that stood out to me was that Trump Tower is a condominium building. I have done quite a bit of work in condominium projects over the years, so I’ve seen all kinds of situations that you typically wouldn’t see in a conventional property. When I saw the huge discrepancy between the “reported” size of Trump’s suite and the actual size, I immediately speculated that his reported size of the suite includes: (1) outdoor patio space that isn’t included in the property title of the suite but is for the exclusive use of the suite owner, and/or (2) he’s including hallways, elevator banks and other common areas on the suite’s floor that are only accessible by the suite owner.
Thanks. Couldn’t tell from his name, but his picture says it all.
We want Trump. We don't want you. Trump is the real deal. You're a fraud.
Yes, give us Trump! How many Men have descended from their golden mansions only to bear the slings and arrows of the rabble (Indicted Harassed Charged) - for all of us?! I can only think of a couple and President Trump hasn’t submitted yet.
Wouldn’t that be a CIVIL MATTER ?
None of the parties involved seemed to mind...
Also DOESN’T EVERYONE TRY TO MINIMIZE TAXES???
I don't know if you raped that little girl, but rape is a crime.
That itself is very telling.
Judge Arthur Engoron. “A face only a mother could love”?
If there was no harm, there is no foul. Basic pre-law-school law.
Apparently Alina Habba didn’t file a motion for a trial. Biiig effup on her part.
Scroll thru the comments. You will see his home is worth close to 1 billion.
A New York judge ruled that Trump inflated his property values, including Mar-a-Lago, which the judge determined was worth $18-$27 million from 2011 to 2021. To put this into perspective, neighboring homes on 0.28-0.89 acres are listed for $18-40 million. Mar-a-Lago, the 20-acre property in the middle, is worth less despite being 20 to 70 times larger.
@EricTrump
: “The real estate circles in Florida are laughing at this foolishness.”
@DonaldJTrumpJr
: “If Mar-a-Lago is worth $18 million… I’ll take 10 please!!!”
