Judge rules Trump committed fraud in building real estate empire

A New York judge on Tuesday found former President Trump liable for fraud, handing a major legal victory to New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) in her sprawling civil case over Trump’s businesses.

New York Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron granted James’s request to find Trump liable for the first of seven causes of action she has accused him of in the lawsuit.

Engoron simultaneously denied Trump’s demand to toss the entire suit without trying the case. The non-jury trial on the remaining matters is set to begin Monday, barring Trump’s separate, last-minute effort for a delay.

Engoron also granted James’s request to sanction five of Trump’s lawyers for bringing up already-dismissed arguments in court, ordering them to pay a $7,500 fine each.

The Judge is a fraud not knowing the nature of appraisals — they are at best educated guesses. The real value is only known when it’s sold. Insurance companies and banks most likely accepted or did their own appraisals.

It’s more an art than a science. Stupid Judge.

And of course the government routinely over appraises property values so they can overcharge property taxes. Here in Illinois there is an entire racket where you get your 1st tax assessment notice and have to sue to get the taxes reduced. If you happen to hire a law firm for that suit which is run by someone politically connected, like the Democrat Madigan clan, then you will for certain get a reduction in your tax assessment. If you are dumb enough to hire a non-connected law firm, then you probably will not get your taxes reduced.

Trump has always had people to fill out forms for applications. And the borrowing would have been by a company he owned or controlled, not by Trump.

And conviction for a fraud requires damage or harm to a victim, doesn’t it?

The same judge ruled against Trump in April 2022.

He started practicing law in 1979 so must be at least in his late 60s. He was elected to his current position.

Re: "Did Trump waive his right to have a jury trial?"

Certainly reads that way.

Perhaps not a bad idea - the trial judge knows that if his decision is overturned on appeal, 100% of the disgrace will land on his personal bench, and not on an incompetent jury.

Another conviction. Okay, on this one I do recall him claiming $10+ billion, later the number was $1-2 billion. Not surprised, don’t see the big deal of verbally overstating value. But, did he do so to defraud, get better terms, rates, whatever? And is it him or his accountants and attorneys as I would have to think they are the ones that write up the docs and pour over it all. So did he intentionally defraud, against advice of his accountants and attorneys? Or are they complicit and also going to be charged?

I can absolutely envision a scenario where an appraised value of a property is much higher than its insured value.

Build a luxury condominium tower in Manhattan, and it might be worth $500 million. Put the name “Trump Tower” on it, and it may be worth $800 million because people are willing to pay a premium to live there.

The replacement value — which is the basis of the insurance premium — is going to be closer to the $500 million value because if the building is destroyed in a disaster the insurer isn’t paying to rebuild a brand name, just a building.

Who represented Trump in this case? Rudy? Sidney Powell? Michael Cohen? Isn’t it obvious Trump didn’t have competent representation?

No ex-President should have to fear being found guilty because he hasn’t any luck picking a competent attorney (or, a competent Vice President, Chief of Staff, member of the cabinet, or treasurer of his company). What does the inability to select good people have to do with being President anyway? And, besides, how can we be sure that the deep state wasn’t mind-controlling Trump he made those selections?

The judge looks like the kind of judge you would find in New York.

In other words, an old emasculated faggot.

If anything, this was nothing more than honest hyperbole. These are trumped up charges are themselves the crime, and President Trump the Victim!

“The judge knows all that. The only goal is to bury Trump in lawfare.”

Actually I’m not sure the judge does know all that. They are very, and I mean, very dumb.

No kidding. You'd think with all that study and $$$ they'd know more about constitutional law than you can pick up by reading comments on the Internet.

Maybe he rest of the country needs to vote New York City out of the union

Maybe we don't need to see a lifelong NYC liberal as the conservative savior?
