Vladimir Putin moved his $100m (£75m) superyacht from a German shipyard to Russia just weeks before he ordered the invasion of Ukraine, according to secret documents released in a new investigation.
A Russian anti-corruption organisation set up by the jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny claims emails show that the Russian president ordered the urgent moving of the 82-metre superyacht, called Graceful, from a shipyard in Hamburg, where it was undergoing a $32m refit, by 1 February 2022.
Photos show the ship being towed out of Hamburg on 7 February en route to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, after the shipyard missed the 1 February deadline.
Just 15 days later – on 22 February – Putin ordered the full-blown invasion of Ukraine. After the invasion, the US, UK and EU imposed sanctions on Russian-owned assets overseas, and dozens of oligarch-owned superyachts were seized across the world.
The emails are disclosed in a report by Russian investigative journalist Maria Pevchikh, who leads an anti-corruption foundation set up by Navalny.
“Half of the country is forced to raise money for underwear and socks for mobilised soldiers, and to make trench candles, while the person who unleashed this war spends 3bn roubles just on repairs and purchases for his yacht,”

Doesn’t sound much different than Biden to me.
John (I was in Viet Nam) Kerry pulled the same trick to avoid high property taxes. Moved his yacht from berthing in one state to another, IIRC.
Ignorance is bliss they say.
There’s no difference, really. Only the level of corruption. That’s not ‘ignorance;’ it is lack of proof. Same thing goes for Zelensky or most any other dominant head official.
What a childish defense you offer for the subject of this thread, why you even want to is a mystery.
Polish Coward.
I don’t have Ukrainian citizenship, so nope, I ain’t going to fight you Russians in Ukraine.
Neither are American soldiers going to do that.
However if you Russians tried to invade Poland, I’d join up. And no, Poland isn’t in danger of invasion by you Russians - you are getting your butts kicked by the Ukrainians
But you, Why don’t you go and fight for Putin? Haven’t you got your recruitment call up yet?
Or are those in St. Petersburg exempt?
JonPreston = Ivan from St. Petersburg?
How come the Russian draft hasn’t reached you yet?

Update on the conflict in Ukraine for August 31, 2023:
- The Western media is trying to spin Ukrainian gains within the security or “gray zone” ahead of Russia’s first of several defense lines as a “turning point” in the offensive;
- Ukraine’s offensive potential has been exhausted with the West struggling to find arms and ammunition to replace Ukrainian losses;
- The West is even struggling to pull together large numbers of antiquated and inappropriate equipment like the post-WW2 Leopard 1 tank;
- Meanwhile Ukraine continues conducting drone strikes in Russia, achieving questionable PR value and little else;
- A recent Ukrainian drone strike on an airport hosting Il-76 strategic airlift aircraft damaged 2. To put that in context, Russia operates over 100 of these aircraft and has production capacity to build up to 12 annually;
- Ukraine’s sponsors are unable to sustain the conflict “for as long as it takes,” and only for as long as they have arms and ammunition to supply Ukraine in sufficient quantities;
You’re complete nonsense

However it's safe here - the war is 800 miles away. Got my citizenship a few years ago (the trickiest part was learning the language) - and it is a lovely place to stay

Nah, a coward is a Russian in St. Petersburg who isn’t going to fight for Putin’s “special operation” in Ukraine.
How is the weather in St. Petersburg for you?

There is zero reason to believe Russia is going to invade any nation and take it over against its wil

Nonsense. There is no evidence Putin has any plans to invade and takeover countries against their will.

The claim Russia is going to invade Ukraine has been nothing but propaganda from the start.

Russia is not going to wage a brutal war with Ukraine. It’s been a lie from the start

Putin is assuring us he has no further territorial ambitions in Europe beyond this one little slice of Ukraine heavily populated by Russians
I have no doubt that’s true. There is no way Putin wants to fight a bloody war with Ukraine. He’d perfectly happy with water flow being restored to Crimea and sanctions to be removed from the Nord 2 pipeline.

You think Russia wants to invade nations in Eastern Europe and take them over against their will?
Why would he want to fight a series of bloody wars when Russia already has a declining population? Why would anyone think younger Russians, who are already complaining about mandatory military service, tolerate that? Why would he risk doing that and losing the ability to sell oil to Germany through the Nord 2 pipeline.
These kind of comments are ignorant. It’s 2022, not 1982.

So, given that, why would anyone in their right mind believe that Putin wants to start wars in Eastern Europe and take countries over against their will as millions of young Russians died in war?

President Putin picked up his chips, completely cleaning our President out. Vladimir got everything he really wanted. He went all in. Consider what he has accomplished. Putin had already absorbed Georgia and Crimea back into Mother Russia. Soon he will complete the annexation of those Russian-leaning eastern provinces and maybe the whole of Ukraine.

It’s now well known that a newly-unified, Russian-Belarussian command is planning a winter offensive….. …..a “second front” against unprepared, largely unguarded areas in the Ukraine’s north. There may be some diversionary raids, but it’s understood that the most likely axis of advance is near the Polish border, south to Lutsk and then potentially to Lvov….. …..cutting off the main supply lines into the Ukraine….. …..without which all organized resistance by Ukrainian forces employing large modern weapons, would cease totally in as little as six weeks.

...Ukraine has for weeks had no success on the battle field.
..The campaign is misleading. Ukraine is losing the war badly
