Oregon looks to create first-in-nation universal health care plan

The chair of a legislative task force presented a plan to a panel of Oregon lawmakers Thursday at the state Capitol that would fundamentally change health care insurance in Oregon and create a public system that would provide coverage for every person in the state.

Dr. Bruce Goldberg told the members of the Senate Interim Committee on Health Care that the proposed new program would cost less than the current health insurance system and would eliminate deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance, and other out-of-pocket costs for those covered by the state program.

“This plan removes obstacles that currently exists for equitable care. Everyone gets the same benefit. No longer do some people get some things and other people don’t get other things,” he said.

in 2019. Its purpose was to provide recommendations for a first-in-the-nation single-payer health care system to cover all Oregonians. Since then, it has held multiple meetings and forums, led by Goldberg, to hash out ideas and collect public comment.

The end result of the task force’s work was a 223-page report with recommendations the task force approved in September.

Separately, in November, Oregon voters approved Measure 111, which established a right to health care in the state’s Constitution. But that measure did not set up a system.

From the article: ““This plan removes obstacles that currently exists for equitable care. Everyone gets the same benefit. No longer do some people get some things and other people don’t get other things,” he said.”

I posed this question to many proponents of universal health care:
given two systems.
In the first system everyone gets the same identical benefits.
In the second system some get more benefits than others but all receieve better/more benefits than anyone in the first system.
Which system do you prefer?

I’ve yet to get a concrete answer. Most reply that everyone will get better benefits in the first system than anyone in the second system because of (unicorn farts, etc., etc.)

I believe it was Sir Humphery Appleby who said the reason for such a system was so anyone could get a bad doctor.

Working folks who pay for all of this get to pay for all of this. Lazy drug addicts living on the streets of Portland get the benefits. Very equitable.

"Everyone gets the same benefit." Everyone? tell the truth! Will the ruling elite get the same benefit as a rich politician or a "philanthropist"? Will the ordinary Joe Shmoe be treated as well as the owner of a huge company worth in the tens of billions?

I think what they mean is that ALL other health plans are canceled, and that you must get your insurance and care from the state system. And anybody who's working will be paying for pot-smoking maggot-infested loafers.

I stopped reading at “legislative task force presented a plan...”

Government screws up just about everything it does, so why should we expect this ‘plan’ to work?

Just more communism being shoved down people’s throats by elitists.

Here’s my universal health plan. Abolish health insurance, everyone pays cash and resumes caring about the price. After a person pays over $10,000 in a 12 month period they would be eligible for government subsidy for their excess medical costs.

If they do this, in spite of what they say, you can bet your butt the politicians won’t be standing in the same lines for hours as other people.

Need an MRI? Let’s see, how about the 2nd week in July?

…and create a public system that would provide coverage for every person in the state.

I think Newsolini already has that scheme enacted. In fact the Kali plan covers everyone who slides across the border.

What he doesn't say, and for good reason, is that those who don't receive healthcare will get better healthcare, just that the rest will receive much worse healthcare. They will even the playing field, alright, but not in a positive manner, because that is not sustainable for the long term.

Romney Care. Trust me it sucks and is actually just another method of channeling more cash into State coffers.

So Oregon is going to get rid of:

Medicare
VA Benefits
Union medical plans
Public employee medical plans

all in the name of equity

Didn’t something similar go belly up in Vermont, Massachusetts and Tennessee? Probably elsewhere too!

I think Newsom’s ‘plan’ failed to get through committee, but I’m sure he’ll try again soon.

He’s now working on a “reparations” plan that will give $223,000 in taxpayer money to every black Californian. That’s his new gimmick. It will cost at least $500 billion.
