A popular Starbucks coffee variety allegedly contains undeclared potassium — potentially harming clueless customers who believe they’re chugging pure java, The Post has learned.
A complaint filed late last month with the North Carolina Department of Justice’s Consumer Protection Division claims Starbucks Dark French Roast Coffee “significantly exceeds” levels of the essential nutrient found in other unadulterated beans sold on supermarket and retail shelves.
Independent laboratory testing found 13% more potassium in Starbucks’ dark roast compared to its house blend as well as Dunkin’ Donuts’ and Lavazza’s dark roast varieties, according to the complaint.

I had a Starbucks coffee once. At my turn they asked how I wanted it. Said ‘black’. Sucked.
Wow. Just Wow. Thirteen hole percent more potassium than Dunkin' Donuts' coffee?
How will humanity ever recover from this?

Almost every American is DEFICIENT in potassium.

I was having problems with bad muscle cramps.
Raised my hydration and it got a little better,,
Raised my magnesium with a product called Calm, a supplement, and had a slight improvement
But was still cramping up.
Next to supplement was potassium. Looked to food sources and read most foods ,due to soil degradation, were weak in potassium.
So I’ve been using a trace mineral and electrolyte powder supplement that mixes with water.
Starbucks is on my shat list for a multitude of reasons.
To each his own.
( Yuban traditional roast for me. And a French press. )
But after that mind image of Mike coffee I may not be able to drink any coffee for a while.
YUCK
Sodomy blend,.. Gross.
Exactly. If it were double the average amount then maybe some Karen should start screaming, but 13% is in the noise.
“13% more potassium in Starbucks’ dark roast.” Sad. Excess potassium is harmful to one’s health. Another reason to avoid Starbucks, the typewriter of the coffee industry.
Based on the amount of potassium in a cup of coffee and the fact that most people don’t even come close to the recommended daily intake (5,000 mg / 5 grams), this is ridiculous.
If you have kidney disease you already know to be very careful with coffee.
Also, since caffeine is a diuretic, for a normal person, they are peeing it out anyway. If a healthy person drinks enough coffee to intake too much potassium, he’s gonna have other problems to deal with.

No amount of cream and sugar can alleviate the harsh taste of Starbucks French roast.
what is the powder you use, may help my leg spasms
Thanks for the info. I suffer from RLS, especially at night. Added Magnesium and it helped somewhat. I just looked at my October lab reports and my Potassium level is low (3.4; report says normal should be above 3.5). I might try Potassium supplements.
So many on Freerepub in favor of false labeling. I did not expect that
So 116 milligrams of potassium in Dunkin Donuts vs 133 in Starbucks with the recommended intake being 4,700 milligrams (mg) per day.
What a... unique point of view.
Starbucks coffee is made with burnt beans so they can use less and still make it taste strong. It’s a weak bitter brew

I take a couple packs with me when I ride motorcycle in the summer with water. Dehydration accelerates when riding for hours in low humidity and heat. Have had my hands cramp out a couple times miles from home. Couple packs , couple 12 oz. Water bottles and about 15 minutes and I was good to go and could use myclutch hand again /-).
People who use milk(cream) and sugar just don’t like the taste of coffee.
