ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Hundreds of small earthquakes have been reported near a volcano in southeast Alaska believed to have been dormant for at least 800 years.
The cause of the quakes under Mount Edgecumbe, a volcano near Sitka that resembles Mount Fuji in Japan, are not known. However, they may not be an indication of volcanic activity, said Dave Schneider, a research geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey at the Alaska Volcano Observatory in Anchorage.
Mount Edgecumbe is a 3,200-foot (976-meter) stratovolcano located on Kruzof Island, about 15 miles (24 kilometers) west of Sitka. The volcano is part of a larger underwater volcanic field of lava domes and craters.

From the Alaska website:
“This dormant volcano rises 3,202 feet to dominate the view about 14-15 miles west of Sitka on the southern lobe of Kruzof Island. Part of an extensive and rugged field of ancient volcanoes that covers about 100 square miles on the island, Edgecumbe last erupted more than 4,000 years ago. The crater is also the site of a smoky April Fool’s joke in 1974, when a local man ignited 70 old tires that had been transported to its crater.”

May be interesting, but nobody lives there.
I live on a lower slope of a Volcano(Mauna Kea)
It has hundreds of Earthquakes and I’m not worried.

You know I read An article written by a couple geologist who said that most of the volcanoes in the ring of fire we’re actually volcanoes at all but rather vents for a super volcano.

It is the spirit of Mount Edgecumbe demanding he/she/they/them/it be given an indigenous name.

Volcanoes are sneaky little bastards.

Looks like a lot of timber there to harvest.
Might as well get it before the volcano
destroys it all.
