Trump withdraws endorsement of 'woke' Mo Brooks

Former President Trump has pulled his endorsement of Rep. Mo Brooks in this year's Alabama Senate primary, slamming the Republican as "woke" and disloyal to him for doubting his claims about the 2020 presidential election.

"When I endorsed Mo Brooks, he took a 44-point lead and was unstoppable. He then hired a new campaign staff who 'brilliantly' convinced him to 'stop talking about the 2020 Election,'" Trump said in a statement issued on Wednesday morning.

"Very sad but, since he decided to go in another direction, so have I, and I am hereby withdrawing my Endorsement of Mo Brooks for the Senate. I don’t think the great people of Alabama will disagree with me. Election Fraud must be captured and stopped, or we won’t have a Country anymore.

As I recall, there were a lot of posts here on FR back in 2017 from Alabama Freepers who suggested that Mo Brooks was only in that race to undermine Roy Moore and give Strange the nomination.

Trump might well have done just that.

McLaughlin & Associates did a poll 3/10-3/13 commissioned by ForestPAC, the PAC for the AL Forestry Assoc., who have endorsed Durant.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – "According to new polling data, U.S. Senate candidates Katie Britt and Mike Durant have established an early lead, and Congressman Mo Brooks will face an uphill battle as the race continues.

The poll, conducted over a three-day period last week, collected information from 500 respondents who intend to vote in the Republican primary election across the state of Alabama.

When asked, ‘If the primary election were held today among the following candidates, for whom would you vote?’ the respondents favored Durant 33.8%. Britt followed with 32%, and Brooks lagged behind with 17.6%. 16.6% of voters remain firmly undecided. The poll was commissioned by ForestPAC, the political arm of the Alabama Forestry Association (AFA). Britt has received an endorsement from the AFA.

According to the poll, Brooks is the most recognizable name on the ballot with only 4.4% of voters never having heard of him. Britt and Durant were unfamiliar to about 10% of respondents."

The poll's topline [PDF] shows a hastily-derived poll made to order against Brooks.

But the McLaughlin's are tight with Trump and surely made him aware of the results before release.

Brooks' band of miscreants -- to call them campaign managers would libel all other campaign managers -- had nothing prepared for this target poll, other than to reply 'neener, neener' on Twitter. That is inexcusable.

At the bareass minimum, Brooks should have purchased his own poll (or have at least 2 different rolling polls quietly going) and released whatever counter he's got on Durant, because Brooks can beat the girl in a runoff.

Educated guess is that Trump is dumping a bad campaign more than dumping Mo Brooks.

“Mo Brooks is the best person running.
Brooks must run a campaign to get elected.
Rehashing 2020 won’t do that.”

Blah, Blah, Blah.

I don’t really pay much attention to screen names. (Bagster is hard to miss)

I read this tripe and had a look to see who had posted this CRAP and I find a screen name that I recognize! “DugwayDuke”

An antagonist who is WRONG on every issue.

Move along, this is not the “drone” you are looking for.

Drone:

1. A male bee, especially a honeybee, that is characteristically stingless, performs no work, and produces no honey. Its only function is to mate with the queen bee.

2. An idle person who lives off others; a loafer.

3. A person who does tedious or menial work; a drudge.

Drone:

bum, fainéant, good-for-nothing, idler, layabout, loafer, ne’er-do-well, no-good, slugabed, sluggard, wastrel, do-little, do-nothing, lazybones, slug, slouch.

I pre-voted back in Maryland in 2020 based on election security. While I liked Trump, he wasn’t precisely my cup of tea, so I was planning to vote for William Weld in my primary — you work with what you have; flame away — BUT I looked at my sample ballot and realized that it was actually a mail-in ballot. I was infuriated.

You see, Governor Hey Hey Hey Fat Albert Hogan decided to make the primaries a mail-in affair in 2020, and the only GOP Presidential candidate who appeared to be speaking out against mail-in voting and its potential for fraud was . . . DONALD TRUMP. So I voted for him and his primary and backup convention delegates instead, except for Maryland GOP poser Dan Cox.

That mail-in vote turned out to be a cluster, with some 10% of all the submitted ballots disqualified.

And, of course, I happily voted for Trump in the 2020 general, having reluctantly voted for him in the 2016 general. I’ll admit, after that first vote and his win, his first few months were a pleasant surprise. You know, unorthodox things like actually keeping promises and putting America ahead of other countries. Although he was somewhat erratic in governance, he generally stayed that way, too.

The freeper is rightly calling attention to Trump’s distraction of 2020. We must be focused on 2022 and 2024 not whining about lost elections. How can he mock Stacy Abrams or Hillary for not conceding but still obsessing not about fraud but what he believes was done to him personally. This cannot be about Trump. He used to talk about the movement and it being about more than him. If he was ever sincere, he needs to embrace that and fight to defeat candidates that have the wrong vision in 2022. At this point polling shows people prefer his policies but don’t want him back even if they don’t want Joe. He needs to rehabilitate his image if he hopes for a come back in 2024 and not gift the Dems a second term. He needs to be smart, strategic and not petulant.

I understand your point. However, the historical reality is that the election was not stolen

If the elections was stolen, why are the thief’s still alive? Is not election theft worthy of killing the thief’s?

If there is no law, then there is certainly no law

I don't consider the 2020 fraudulent elections to be about Trump. I consider them to be about power stealing corrupt elites who need to be brought to heel. They think they should keep power no matter the will of the people, and this is a grave threat to our system of governance.

Trump is just the latest victim which made us aware of the behind the scenes doings of this corrupt system. Who knows how many other elections we "lost" because this same sort of fraud was happening?

This isn't about Trump, and it was never about Trump. It's about the corrupt governing structure that empowers evil people who get rich through government policies and programs.

Our entire system is corrupt, and Trump revealed the corruption.

I don’t doubt that people were saying it, but it doesn’t make sense that Brooks would have wanted to help Strange, unless Brooks lives in the swamp too. Considering how many Republicans have turned out to be great disappointments, that’s certainly possible.

Good history. Sears also convinced Reagan to stay in California rather than spend the final weekend in New Hampshire in 1976. The Gipper lost by an inch to Ford and spiraled until Jesse Helms saved him in NC, but it was too late.

Reagan let Sears fire most of his loyal warriors and it took Mike Reagan to convince him how bad Sears was.

These consultants are very bad news. Our candidates usually run nebulous, vapid campaigns.

Great going Donald, you just ensured that a RINO like Katie Britt or Matt Durant will get the nomination. I am done with Trump and strongly desire someone else in 2024.
