Top secret JFK assassination files are FINALLY released: Lee Harvey Oswald was in contact with member of KGB two months before shooting and anonymous phone calls said Russia was behind it, trove of 1,500 documents reveal

More than 1,500 previously classified JFK assassination files have today been made public, including documents about killer Lee Harvey Oswald's contact with a KGB agent two months before the shooting.

The files were released at noon on Wednesday by the National Archives, after months of delays by Biden who had promised to make them public but then stalled, claiming COVID backlogs was the reason.

They include memos detailing anonymous phone calls to the US embassy in Canberra, Australia, a year before the shooting, where the caller said the Soviet Government was plotting to kill Kennedy, and details of Oswald's meeting with a KGB agent at the Soviet Embassy in Mexico City two months before the shooting.

Another call was placed on November 24, two days after the shooting, claiming the Russians were behind it.

Oswald's wife Marina, who was was Russian, is referenced throughout the files. One details how a Moroccan student contacted the CIA after the shooting and claimed he had been her boyfriend. The relevance of that to the investigation is not known.

In September 1963, Oswald met with Consul Valeriy Vladimirovich Kostikov, a KGB agent. The meeting has been referred to in previous documents but new details emerged today. It's unclear who initiated the meeting.

And why get rid of JFK? Don’t see any upside for the Soviets.

He humiliated them on the world stage by making them back down in the Cuban Missile crises. (Which *HE* caused in the first place.)

Yes, I can see why the Soviets would very much want this man killed. They were all about saving face and avoiding embarrassment.

Question: What would the Russians gain by this?

Revenge for Kennedy having public humiliating them on the world stage by forcing them to back down in the Cuban Missile crises. (Which Kennedy caused in the first place.)

If you know anything about the soviets, they would not tolerate embarrassment.

I would include James Cox and Al Smith, 1920 and 1928 Democratic Presidential candidates, in the non-socialist camp.

I learned about these things shortly after the Warren Commission completed their work. I was barely a teenager if that old. I learned from someone who made it his life long passion to expose it all.

Obsessed nuts are always "exposing" stuff with contorted thinking.

Oswald killed Kennedy and there is no magic bullet. The injuries to Connally and Kennedy line up perfectly when you get the 3-D geometry correct.

The Demonrat party got taken over by Socialists (which later segued to Communists) way back in 1896.

I think you mean the Republican party. Karl Marx was a big Lincoln fan and wrote to him congratulating him on his work. By the "Progressive Era" all the liberals were Republicans. Socialism was "in" back at the turn of the 20th century.

Far older than you. Was 26 then, had worked at Repub HQ in Grand Rapids, went in as a volunteer and they discovered I was good at raising money. Was at lunch with chairman of state finance committee who had come down from Detroit to ask me to come work at state Hq. Sat at a booth across from the bar, where a big TV was on. And there was Cronkite announcing JFK was dead.

State chairman and I were dismayed. We never wanted him dead. I went home immediately to my pre-schoolers and he went home to his. End of my career in politics. I had worked for a famous photographer at Dem National Convention in Chicago as a teenager, met JFK and Jackie, had good conversation with RFK there too. Beautiful and charming people, far far better Dems than today’s crop of idiot hustlers.

So what was the post-shooting plan of this “well-trained” Marine?

Texas was overall Democrat run, but remember Eisenhower carried Texas twice. Dallas County turned Republican in the 1950s, supporting Eisenhower by a nearly 2 to 1 margin in 1956. Bruce Alger, the Dallas Congressman in the late 1950s and early 1960s, was a libertarian, the Ron Paul of that time. Moreover, there were several extremely rich Dallas businessmen, such as oilman H.L. Hunt, who were sympathetic toward right wing causes. The John Birch Society, the deplorables of that time, was very active in Dallas.

If the Kennedy assassination were a Soviet and domestic leftist plot, Dallas would be the ideal location, as the "climate of extremism" could be blamed for the assassination. However, the capture of Oswald, with his Soviet defector background, would deflate that narrative.

I don't think the Soviets had the ability to carry out such an assassination in this country, and if they did, they would have used a professional assassin, not Oswald.

No, they were left-wing Socialists, too. Alton B. Parker was someone who tried to appeal to both camps when he ran in 1904, but other than that, only Davis was a non-leftist.

There you go. Beforehand the conspiracy hounds say “The feds are hiding the evidence of their deep state coup, that’s why they won’t release the files!” Then when they do and it’s another nothing burger it’s “The evidence is faked, those aren’t the real files!”

No amount of evidence can convince those fully invested in the conspiracy.

Rather, Oswald waited until Kennedy’s car turned left on Elm, was at an angle, started to speed-up and away from his position, and he then only had a neck/head shot.

He may have set up to take the shot against someone he assumed would be in a hardtop sedan, rather than a convertible. From the front, at his angle, he wouldn't have been able to see Kennedy as well, so the back would have been a better target.

Interesting story. As one raised after JFK died we were all told he was some sort of martyred saint that was immensely popular with everyone in the nation. My old man said 'don't believe it, he was seen as weak and in political trouble and went to Dallas because his election chances looked very much in doubt'.

That was just his opinion but he was far from a fringe nut, he was a mainstream democrat and so it was based on what he saw and read in that time. But you never read that sentiment anywhere, you'd think he was going to be re-elected with a 50 state sweep and supermajority of the vote.

This was one thing that made me start questioning what gets written into history books about whether the whole story is really presented or if the authors have a bias one way or the other.

Look!! Squirrel!!

The relevant question isn’t whom LHO was in contact with, but rather who killed JFK, or at least, what did the CIA and other agencies actually know about who killed JFK. (Not what they’ve decided or been instructed to say they know, what did they actually know.)

Not that there’s a snowball’s chance that they would ever answer that truthfully.

There are no impossible trajectories of the bullet that struck JFK first, then hit Connolly leaving a clearly seen oblong wound in his back. You’re just showing that your knowledge of the actual configuration of the back seat, the jump seat, and both men’s posture at that moment comes from Oliver Stone, not reality.

Nope. Both parties had their left and right wings by our modern standards, but the Demonrats were conquered at the top beginning in 1896. That was not the case with the Republicans, despite the best efforts of the left to conquer both parties.

Anyway, you and I have hashed this one out before and your claims of Lincoln being a “Marxist.” You can look up our past exchange.

Didn’t KGB at the embassy in Mexico city, want nothing to do with him? I thought they believed he was being run by the CIA, which, of course, he was.
