Biden bill includes boost for union-made electric vehicles

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden and Democrats in Congress are looking to give U.S. automakers with union employees the inside track on the burgeoning electric vehicle market, triggering vocal opposition from foreign trade partners and Republicans who worry that manufacturers in their home states will be placed at a competitive disadvantage.

The $1.85 trillion spending package that Democrats are laboring to pass through Congress includes an array of programs designed to curb global warming and slash U.S. emissions. It includes incentives to hasten the transition to electric vehicles, which represent a small but rapidly growing share of the market.

If enacted, the bill would provide a $7,500 tax credit for consumers who purchase electric vehicles through 2026. Beginning the following year, only purchases of electric vehicles made in the U.S. qualify for the credit. The base credit goes up by $4,500 if the vehicle is made at a U.S. plant that operates under a union-negotiated collective bargaining agreement. Only auto plants owned by General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co. and Stellantis NV currently qualify.

The union friendly add-on is raising hackles internationally and inside the U.S., testing the Democratic Party’s commitment to a labor-friendly approach that Biden has made central to his political brand. The provision could boost the sale of electric vehicles while disadvantaging foreign automakers with U.S. plants that employ tens of thousands of manufacturing workers, particularly in Southern states where laws have made it hard to unionize.

Democrats are undaunted. They say supporting union jobs is good for the economy and the country.

I don't care if all the cars are electric....And every home is solar...It's not going to change the climate one little bit.

And every scientist on earth knows it.

As the population has grown....so has Co2 to sustain the commodities which feed, house and clothe the population.

I'm writing a book: "My Cow Farts and the Grass Beneath His Feet Turns Green".

I’d like to see some Republican governors act preemptively on this. The simplest measure they could push would be a state law that establishes a minimum annual vehicle registration fee of $10,000 for any electric vehicle sold under the provisions of the is stupid bill.

....So where is the justfication? ...

The justification is to convince clueless, dumb people
that you "Care" about the environment.

Symbol over substance.
Feelings over reality.
Etc...

Sadly - but predictably - the stupid people appear to be winning -
at the moment.

One big hitch, the interstate roads don’t have
charging stations, and it would take hours to
recharge each vehicle.

Can you imagine every 300 miles stopping to
get a charge versus 5 minutes to fill your
gas tank at the pump.

Sorry I ain’t interested. I have gone across
America several times and it usually takes 5
days with just me driving.

I cannot see adding several more days doing
it for the liberal green BS.

“utilities that burn natural gas, coal,”

They are shutting down those.

So where do they intend on getting that energy?
They cant answer. Wont answer. And if they do, they will spout off about solar, wind and all.

MARK my words, the next is that they will come right out and say that we all will need to sacrifice some lives for the greater good of the rest.
In plain words, people need to die so “we”-meaning they, can continue on.
Starvation is a hell of a thing and that is how they will do it. Prevent everything from getting to rural communities and letting those in those communities starve a SLOW death.
Like the are doing in North Korea and in Red China.

batteries, so we will be paying threw the nose
to buy batteries. And Joe blo gets 10 percent.

Biden has to curb his own Methane Ass emissions

Biden's action is market distortion at its worst, for a dubious benefit. Instead of concentrating on electric cars in isolation, any such action should include adding generating capacity to the national electrical grid. Smart people have been talking about thorium reactor factories, but it seems the concept never gets off the ground. Instead, we have companies that want to build SMR factories (using the same fission reaction systems that generate long-lived nuclear waste) which would solve the generation problem but not address the waste problem.

Then there are the people who look at hydrogen as a "solution" without describing where we get the H2 in the first place.

One ray of hope for the electric-car people is the graphine plant that is slated to be built next to the Gigafactory in northern Nevada. Safer and higher-capacity batteries, if the PR hype is to be believed.

Electric cars died off at the beginning of the Automobile Age because energy density just wasn't there.
