CDC issues new eviction ban for most of U.S. through Oct. 3

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday issued a new moratorium on evictions that would last until October 3, ending some of the political pressure being placed on President Joe Biden.

The new moratorium could help keep millions in their homes as the coronavirus’ delta variant has spread and states have been slow to release federal rental aid. It would temporarily halt evictions in counties with “substantial and high levels” of virus transmissions and would cover areas where 90 percent of the U.S. population lives.

The announcement was something of a reversal for the Biden administration after saying that a Supreme Court ruling prevented a moratorium. But the choice to impose a new measure in the face of legal uncertainty was also a win for the progressive lawmakers who pushed the White House to do more to prevent some 3.6 million Americans from losing their homes during the COVID-19 crisis.

Biden stopped short Tuesday afternoon of announcing the new ban on evictions during a press conference at the White House, ceding the responsibility to the CDC.

“My hope is it’s going to be a new moratorium,” Biden told reporters.

How does the CDC have this kind of authority — to extend a ban on rental evictions?

Unconstitutional. If a person is buying a house and quits payments, can the banks foreclose and evict? Can landlords sue for back payments?

In other news, the localities deferred property tax requirements, the insurance companies deferred property insurance payments, maintenance workers agreed to keep up properties without payment....

Not!

Eviction ban for last 16 months = you don’t pay rent NOT you cannot be evicted. All that phoney money to all the renters has been spent on everything but rent.

Yup—folks who thought ownership of rentals was a good investment are learning a hard lesson—in a third world country (like the US today) you cannot count on the government to defend property rights.

I am not, but if I were a landlord dealing g with the bank and dead beat renters, I’d be tempted to arson for insurance money.

They dont have the authority to do this..seriously..there are enough jobs so people can get off their a@@es and get to WORK, but they dont..what they want is to live for free..and screw the landlords..landlords like my Mom who every month worry that maybe her tenants will screw her over, thankfully so far so good but still

SCOTUS has already ruled that they do not have that authority. This is the CDC using that decision as toilet paper.

The USSC had the ability to stop this back in June. But Kavenaugh voted with the Liberals (5-4) to allow it to continue. He said in the ruling it was unconstitutional. But because he said it was expiring end of July he voted with the liberals. He should have not been trying to be a good jurist and went ahead and voted it down. Whoever filed the original case, needs to seek an emergency +re-vote”... Biden admin, lawless.

Is the CDC even mentioned in the private-property exemption clause of the US Constitution?

I must have missed it.
