[Becoming financiallyt independent] Something I did at 17 and they do at 37.

Same here, and I’m a woman. But it was a lot easier to do then. I’m aghast at what things cost today in comparison, and the added digital equipment deemed necessary. When it comes to products and services, massive amounts if lawsuits and swindles have driven every price up or quality down, as have globalization, the education bubble, the healthcare scam, the extortionate support of indigents and immigrants, and the death of the mom’n’pop main street due to over-regulation, chain stores and big box discounters. Shopping used to be a pleasure. Now you have to be significantly richer in relation to basic necessities to enjoy the same sense of middle-class affordability from average household income. Trump hammered this point in his 2016 campaign—one of the many reasons I voted for him. But he seems also to be a fan of big government spending.

Millenials are an ungrateful lot.

The majority are ... I a boomer worked my back side off so my millennials could be 'debt' free and educated to begin their own lives. There is NO way to convey the 'love' of child to these that buy Bernie Sanders BS... I do pray ol Bernie gets his own reward.

I totally agree I was out the door on my own at 18 couldn’t wait to have my own place, paid my own way through college and NEVER looked back!! I will say one thing though I would NEVER have gone to college if it had put me in debt for the rest of my damn life NO WAY!! I would have worked my up through the ranks of restaurants, or grocery, or retail it doesn’t take that long to go into management in any of these industries hell in Dominos pizza they do EVERYTHING they can to put their hard workers into franchises!! These kids today have a lifetime of debt for a half assed education all they have learned is to HATE this country and be ashamed they were born white!! If I had ever had children they would NEVER had set foot into a university today NO WAY the trades pay excellent money AND they are in extremely high demand!!

>>I would NEVER have gone to college if it had put me in debt for the rest of my damn life NO WAY!!<<

College debt does NOT have to be a lifelong debt. The average college debt is a little less than $30K. That is a lot but NOT a lifelong burden.

If people would go to PLACES THEY CAN AFFORD, such as State Colleges, they would not have these huge debts. And they could PAY THOSE DEBTS OFF if they majored in subjects that have paying jobs waiting for them.

This is not a “it is too expensive” issue. This is a “I want to go to places I cannot afford and get degrees that no one wants” issue.

And who says they have to go to college? Get a job in the trades and you are set for life. And I will NOT brook “oh we were told you have to go to college” crap. Millenials had access to the ENTIRE INTERNET to help them research what does and does not pay.

I just checked the first page of the list of universities in The World Almanac which gives the year the institution was founded. Half were founded before 1900 and half since 1900. Before WWII not very many people went to college--the GI Bill after the war greatly expanded the number of college students and a lot of universities continued to grow in the 1950s and 1960s. Many regional state universities started as normal schools or teachers' colleges in the late 1800s or early 1900s and later were transmorgrified into universities.

The boomers stole everything from everyone. The WORLD is broke because of the boomers. There are trillions upon trillions in unfunded liabilities and outright debt. They brought in the third world to our nations and put them on welfare in exchange for our standards of living. They have brought us a progressive socialist government that is destroying prosperity and creating generations of snowflakes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So Organic Panic, you did not reply to my comment..
Your post is offensive to EVERY FREEPER WHO IS A BABY BOOMER—just like a lib who likes to stereotype everyone of a certain political affilitiation or race THE SAME~~as if all supported the positions you list...
Frankly NO Freeper “brought you a progressive socialist government”...and many are Baby Boomers.
Who do you think RUNS Free Republic?!?!!? A Baby Boomer!
So since you are so quick to judge boomers, please share what YOU DONE to improve this country! Did you serve in the military? Are you a First responder? Have you run for office? Did you start a business? Are you or have you been door knocking for conservative candidates? Did you raise children who are now responsible conservative contributers?
Perhaps instead of casting blame on boomers, how about you take a good hard look in the mirror and determine how YOU can make a meaningful contribution and improve the Country going forward.
If you want to blame yourself fine.
Millenials are the laziest most ignorant & self-absorbed generation.
Nobody wants to say or admit that but tough shit.
Just like so many freepers cast the entire “millennial” generation as no good snowflakes? Lighten up Francis.
Then which Generation has voted themselves the most lucrative lavish lifestyle ever seen and financed it on the backs of generations that have not been born?
That would be the Greatest Generation.
And their parents.
The Boomers were the people who paid the full shot. In fact they hit the work force just in time to see their Social Security Taxes go from "will never be over 3%" to the current 12.4%.
Lighten up? You are the one who stereotyped an entire generation.
I asked what YOU have done...Crickets!
Oh and true to style, you stereotyped that I cast the entire millennial generation as “no good.”” I said nothing about millennials being good or bad...or snowflakes...I merely asked what YOU have done...
BTW, I have 3 great kids that are part of the millennial generation—one with PhD, one with MS, and one working on MS....4 Grandkids, great responsible people who are contributors not whiners...And they appreciate the sacrifice that their parents made so they would have a good life.
Again, you are the one who needs to lighten up.
Sadly you are trying to frame your whining on generational demographics...You really should not go there...It is about parties...ib and Conservative, Status quo/Elite vs. Libertarian, etc.
Boomers are not the only group that has big spenders voting...Ever heard of Gen X and Gen Y???
It really pisses me off that a person who knows nothing about my life or my generation thinks it is OK to stereotype...It is a totally leftist move...I did not vote a lavish lifestyle—and I venture to say NO Freepers did. In fact, my spouse and I worked hard to provide our kids with foundation for a good future-not have a “lavish lifestyle financed on their backs”...
You are waaaay out of line. Stop whining and improve your own life.
S-U-R-E. That makes it ALL better.
The Millennials were merely twinkles in their parents eyes by the time Boomers+ had morally & financially exhausted our once Republic.
Easier to fight when the war is still young, instead there’s a “I *paid*...” brigade on FR. Sad.
Could be worse.
You could be a Gen X, which pays, fought all the boomer wars, and gets nothing, on either side.
No wonder 90s music was grunge.
I have always paid my own. way and economically enslaved no one. collecting on an IOU is not a “perceived owe”’there was a contractual agreement with the government even if not voluntarily entered on our part. I would have far rather invested the $ they took from me in my own
*Sigh*
Wake me when ANY Court re-affirms your “perceived owe” vs. taxed fantasy (Not that they’d EVER touch the ‘tax FOR’ side of that Const. authority equation)
As would I...it’s why I dump as much as I make into 401K/ROTH+ as legally/financially possible. I’d never look upon ‘son liable for father’s debts’ as valid
