Print this article Former CIA Director John Brennan appears to have dodged prosecution in U.S. Attorney John Durham's criminal inquiry into the Russia investigation.
After NBC News reported Thursday that Brennan agreed to do an interview with Durham, signaling that his investigation is nearing its end, a lawyer familiar with the situation told NPR that the Obama-era CIA director has been told he is not a target of prosecutors. Instead, this source said, the interview will mainly consist of technical questions.
The news is sure to disappoint some of President Trump's most ardent supporters who believe Brennan and other top officials in the Obama administration sought to sabotage Trump's candidacy in 2016 and later his presidency.
Still, while Brennan may escape an indictment, he may yet be harshly criticized in a report. Attorney General William Barr said he expects "developments" from Durham's inquiry by the end of the summer.
Its hard to prove criminal intent at their level, and unless theres a smoking gun, like an email or text, theyll probably get off with a damning report about their activities," former Assistant FBI Director Chris Swecker, who claims to know Durham personally, told RealClearInvestigations in reference to Brennan and other top intelligence community and law enforcement officials from the Obama administration.
Durham has reportedly scrutinized Brennan's emails, call logs, and other records from the CIA as his team looked into the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment on Russian election interference, whether there was an effort to hide information from other agencies, British ex-spy Christopher Steeles flawed anti-Trump dossier, and other issues.
Democrats, some Justice Department veterans, and legal experts have raised concerns about the public release of Durham's findings or indictments less than 90 days from the election. Under questioning last week by Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, a Florida Democrat, Barr refused to commit under oath to not releasing a report before the November contest and pledged it would not "disrupt" the election.
Timing is also a mounting concern for the president's allies who fear the federal prosecutor's work will get buried should former Vice President Joe Biden defeat Trump.
Brennan, who has traded barbs with Trump over the past couple years, found out he had been blocked from accessing his classified notes and records while working on his forthcoming memoir.
They will all skate. Some small fish will take the fall
Still, while Brennan may escape an indictment, he may yet be harshly criticized in a report.
Im sure thatll just wound him forever. So whos up for indictment? The building janitor?
Of course Brennan, Comey, Clapper, Hillary, and all the other leaders of the coup plot will escape prosecution. We all know they are guilty in a conspiracy to overthrow the duly-elected government of the United States, but no one seriously believed they would be held accountable in court. Their treason is still not at its end; it will continue for the next four years and beyond.
Claire Wolfe’s quote, “America is at that awkward stage; it’s too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards,” may have reached its expiration date.
I suspect you are entirely correct.
How people somehow got their hopes up about this is what should really be examined.
Those who follow The Letter were wrong once more.
It has.
So, everyone here is going to get all hysterical over an anonymous source via NPR?
If you do not know, the left is trying to demoralize us. They love to plant these stories to divide us.
I believe none of it.
Hey Barr and Durham......your names will be MUDD!
“I was hoping for a more ignominious end for that surly, constipated-looking old bastard”.
“Penitentiary-Faced-Brennan”, according to Chris Plante, WMAL, 9AM—NOON. A fun “listen”. ;)
Give me a BREAK! It;s ALL PROVABLE if they would INVESTIGATE!
Democrats are LAW-LESS because Republicans are BALL-LESS!
“has been told he is not a target of prosecutors.”
Maybe is’s a case similar to when they told Flynn he wasn’t a target annd didn’t need an attorney. Maybe it’s a lie — hopefully.
“It sounds to me that he has agreed to rollover.”
On whom would he roll over? Isn’t he the ultimate “big fish” at the top? I despise that man. Federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison is too good for him.
So sick of hearing about ‘intent’ with this crap.
Try that with the traffic cop who pulls you over for speeding, “Well, officer, I did not intend to speed.”
“I didn’t intend to kill him, Yer Honor.”
“I didn’t intend to delete those emails.”
If Brennan, Clapper, Comey, and the rest...all the way to Killery and Zero...are left to roam free, then we truly have become a banana republic.
Ha, ha, ha the Obama-era CIA director has been told he is not a target of prosecutors! Man our side has a great sense of humor...... using Rods line on them.....
“Durhams actions and indictments are NOT being leaked. Not at all.”
If there are no leaks then there is nothing to leak. Washington axiom.
“I put no faith in John Durham.”
At this point we do have all our eggs in one basket don’t we.
Oh, Brennan is vile all right. It’s just that he knows where all the bodies are buried and who put them there. That; coupled with his cravenness, makes for an effective escape plan.
Isnt that what the fbi told trump and Flynn?
News earlier in the Week.
BREAKING: After 16 months of investigating, special #Spygate prosecutor John Durham STILL has not interviewed James Comey, Andrew McCabe, John Brennan or James Clapper, and Clappers attorney reportedly said Durhams office has assured him that he will not be interviewed at all.
