CLEVELAND Cleveland police are investigating after a man shot and killed a dog after it attacked his pregnant girlfriend while she was taking it on a walk Saturday evening.
Around 6:44 p.m., officers responded to the 9200 block of Rosalind Avenue after receiving a call that a woman had been attacked by a pit bull, police said.
Once on scene, officers found that a 31-year-old woman was being transported by EMS to University Hospitals in serious condition and saw the dog lying lifeless in the street, according to police.
The womans boyfriend told police that he had shot and killed the dog after we witnessed it attack his girlfriend, police said.

My neighbor and her dog were attacked by a pitbull that had gotten loose.
She always carries some type of anti- bear spray with her attached to her leash for easy access - and suggested I do the same.
My little dog was attacked once while he was on-leash by a pitbull that had been rescued - that was also on-leash. If I hadn’t been able to grab my small dog and place him up on a retaining wall I think the pitbull would have killed him.
Now, I always carry some type of pepper spray on my leash when I go out.
Uh...NO....your dog will be yanking the leash all over and you won't be able to access the spray.
I hope the boyfriend is not a felon.
Because a cop didn't get to shoot the dog?
It seems all the pit bulls were laying back during the riots. They missed the attention.
Our local paper advertises them as terriers for adoption but when you look at the photos they are actually pit bull terriers.
post of the day... I remember “lad a Dog” Terhune and “I Love Lassie “..Great digs..

The great care that goes into writing “news” these days is so impressive.
oops “Dogs”
::Good outcome except for the woman getting hurt.::

And except for the fact that she is shacking up with the shooter instead of being married to him.
I carry a gun....and will not hesitate to use it if a pitbull attacks my dog.
I had to do that once. It was a loose pit bull with no owner around. It had broken out of its backyard fence. It had my dog by the neck in its jaws and was shaking him violently. The Pit bull had the mass of a bag of concrete mix, so I could not budge it. Took two shots to get it to drop my dog.
And, have you noticed that it is VERY difficult to get a rescue dog that isnt a pitbull or pitbull mutt/mix?
Greyhounds: Every time the alarm clock goes off, they start running in circles in the living room.
I have plenty to worry about without having to worry about a dog with a hair trigger.
Yes.
There are other types of dogs being surrendered but, from what an acquaintance who has worked with animal shelters tells me, there is a list and those dogs are sold to the people on that list.
Only the pit bulls and mixes which are mostly unsocialized are to be found in the shelters.
“Dont know why the police have to *investigate* it.”
I assume they want to know why he stopped the attack instead of the “new normal” (i.e., filming his gf being savaged so he could sell the video).

Cops want to find out if the boyfriend is a felon so they can put him in jail for a year.
Several years ago I was looking for a pup and found the same problem. Had to go to a rural shelter to find something suitable.
They’ll probably just get another dog ... a pit bull of course.
