Asphyxiation not the cause of George Floyd's death: Autopsy
The Washington Times ^ | Friday, May 29, 2020 | Valerie Richardson

George Floyd died Monday from a combination of preexisting health conditions exacerbated by being held down by Minneapolis officers, not from strangulation or asphyxiation, based on the medical examiner’s initial report.

Preliminary findings from a Tuesday autopsy conducted by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner found “no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxiation or strangulation,” according to the criminal complaint filed Friday against former officer Derek Michael Chauvin.

“Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease,” said the complaint from the Hennepin County Attorney. “The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.”

The Minneapolis police officer fired earlier this week was charged Friday with third-degree murder and manslaughter after kneeling on Mr. Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Video showed he was unresponsive for the last 2 minutes and 53 seconds.

“Police are trained that this type of restraint with a subject in a prone position is inherently dangerous,” the complaint said.

According to the filing, officers confronted Mr. Floyd after receiving a 911 call saying that he had paid for merchandise at Cup Foods with a phony $20 bill. They found him nearby in his vehicle with an adult male and female.

Mr. Floyd, who was six feet tall and weighed over 200 pounds, was handcuffed and led to the squad car, but resisted getting inside, saying he was claustrophobic.

While standing, he said repeatedly he couldn’t breathe. Mr. Floyd struggled as officers tried to force him into the car and fell to the ground. Two officers held him down while Officer Chauvin pressed his knee on the suspect’s neck.

Mr. Floyd said “I can’t breathe” multiple times, as well as

I agree with everything you say. But if the cop cut off the carotid Floyd would have passed out real quick, and he didn’t.

If you look, there are at least three posts now on Free Republic showing that the Medical Examiner said there was no axphixiation or strangulation.

wait till Officer Chauvin is reinstated back on the force cause he “dindu nuffin” wrong.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Think any life saving help could have been administered in the 3 minutes (in the report) that the cop waited to get his knee off the guy AFTER he was unresponsive?

What do you think is a reasonable amount of time to get your knee of of someone’s neck after they have gone unresponsive?

He was very drunk and he told the officers when they came to the car window that he was having trouble breathing. That’s why he couldn’t stand up very well. I’d suspect he had a cerebral aneurysm from being stood on in his agitated condition...the first accounts I read said that the officer took his foot off (after 8 minutes) only when blood gushed from Loyd’s mouth and nose. But we shall see.

Just asking for a friend...

If he had been tased and thus suffered a heart attack, would the police officer doing the tasing then be guilty of murder?

It would depend on if he were tasing to subdue an attacker or a restrained prisoner. This man was cuffed and restrained.

Numerous people have died from police tasers; some while attacking and/or fleeing, others whie in restraints.

This YouTube video shows a cuffed suspect being tased repeatedly. When unnecessary force is applied to a restrained suspect and they die (from whatever cause), the officer should expect murder charges.

I tend to think that he wouldn’t have died had he not been drunk and committing crimes, prompting someone to call 911 on Floyd. Had this not occurred, George Floyd would probably still be alive.

That doesn’t mean he deserved a death squad, but what the police did to him is a separate issue.

Come on over. Reach out to shake hands or an elbow and I’ll have you down with a neck hold that’ll have you pass out in 10 seconds. Hold for 2 minutes. You’re done.

Don’t come at night. I get nervous when anyone is in my woods -you could be a coyote.

You have on video a murder by men with guns and badges. I no longer respect LEOS.

They are in their own club and “citizens” are the enemy until proven otherwise.

Sad.

Any potential toxicity findings...hmmm...so toxicity report not in.
Bad heart, hypertension, and if he was on drugs pretty much any kind of stress could a sent him into a heart attack.

Cop was charged with third degree murder and manslaughter.

I'm guessing that the murder charge gets dropped as part of a plea agreement on the manslaughter charge.

Toxicological screens take more time to conclude completely.

Oh bullcrap. She was an Aussie with zero awareness of the world US cops live in. The cops were in a dark alley and she ran up and slapped the car window as she suddenly appeared out of the dark. She startled a low quality affirmative action hire who torched one off.
He was relieved of duty, his hapless training officer who was damned near also shot, testified against him.
He got 12 years in prison for manslaughter.

“Toxicological screens take more time to conclude completely.”

Therefore it was odd to mention it the way he did.

Geez! The dude's heart attack started BEFORE he was placed on the ground, the medical assessment implies that!

A NEGLIGENCE conviction, AT BEST.

So then, if he died while they were clubbing him with nightsticks and the ME "declares" that he died of a heart attack, the officers get a pass, right?
