Early-onset dementia and Alzheimers disease jumped 200% among commercially insured Americans between the ages of 30 and 64 over a recent five-year period, a new analysis of Blue Cross and Blue Shield health insurer claims shows.
The report, the latest from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, shows 131,000 people between the ages of 30 and 64 were diagnosed with either form of dementia in 2017. The average age of someone with either condition is 49 and women are disproportionately impacted than men, the report, which is the latest in the trade groups The Health of America series, shows.
In 2017, there were 12.6 diagnoses per 10,000 adults of either early-onset dementia and Alzheimers disease for commercially insured adults aged 30 to 64, the report said. That compares to 4.2 diagnoses per 10,000 adults of early-onset dementia and Alzheimers disease combined for the same 30 to 64 age group in 2013.
The increase in early-onset dementia and Alzheimers diagnoses among a generation who typically wouldnt expect to encounter these conditions for several decades is concerning, especially since there is no cure for Alzheimers disease, said Dr. Vincent Nelson, vice president of medical affairs for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, which gathered data for the report from a database of medical claims of more than 48 million commercially insured Blue Cross customers.

I will also add that this is likely to grab early SS DISABILITY $$$
I’m not saying that people are pretending to have alzheimers. Where did you even get that idea?
I’m saying people were unaware they could have some sort of service for say their elderly parents with the disease. I’m a nurse and I have seen this. People with parent with dementia and they are caring for them, breaking their backs to do so, unaware they can have some help with their insurance covering.
Blue Cross Plans Say Alzheimers Has Tripled Among Adults Ages 30 To 64

And what does Blue Cross have to say about Alzheimer’s among Democrat presidential candidates?
Seems pretty severe to me.
its because i just skimmed what you wrote..and that is what popped into my head
but yeah..i get what you are saying
but I do know people fake stuff for insurance reasons
What would be the benefit of pretending to have alzheimers.

Many have posited that Biden is pretending. So later when he is arrested and tried - he can get off claiming he doesn’t know.
I have wondered if he is pretending as well.
But I think it is real.
He has dementia and his wife knows it ...and is his protector.
Don’t think that brain scans help here.
Diagnosis of dementia:
“There is no one test to determine if someone has dementia. Doctors diagnose Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia based on a careful medical history, a physical examination, laboratory tests, and the characteristic changes in thinking, day-to-day function and behavior associated with each type.”
A couple of decades ago my wife and I applied for the long term health insurance to help if we needed home care.
I had just turned 62 and she was 60.
The nurse asked my wife a few a questions and said she was fine.
I was told a series of number, then I got the same questions my wife got and a quick physical exam. Her focus was on bp, pulse rate and listening to my heart with her stethoscope. I passed those with no problem even after mild exercise.
She asked me the series of numbers several times during this part of the exam.
Finally when she asked me again, I closed her pad and asked her the numbers, she got 1 correct out of the series. I handed it back to her and told her the series, correctly, again.
Then, she said that I passed.
My wife asked as one RN to another RN, why I was tested.
That RN said that being a male at age 62 and early retirement were a common possible clue.
After she left my wife said it was a good thing she didn’t have to take and pass that test. She could only remember the first and last #.
My wife has one of the best memories (often too good), I have ever seen in action.
Cell phone use?
Guess I missed it, Maybe next time
Boomers, recreational drugs, Alzheimer’s...............
Whut?.....................
“Ive often wondered about statins since the brain is full of cholesterol.”
You are not by yourself re Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s and a link to taking potent statins.
Please remove the microwave... err....cell phone from your ear.
I fear that mind altering drugs like psych meds might be doing damage to peoples brains. To play with brain chemistry is no small thing.
I’m sure that has a lot to do with it.
Just look at Hollyweird......................
Weed and other psychotropic drugs, antidepressants, stimulants such as Ritalin, etc. may contribute to early-onset Alzheimer's.
Nothing can be done to stop it, and it is downhill from there onward.
With some Alzheimer's people it is fast, with some it is slower, but presently it cannot be stopped.-Tom
