A New York Police Department detective committed suicide at his mother's home in Queens on Monday, authorities say.
Sources identified the officer as Second-grade Det. Paul Federico, 53, according to the New York Post.
This marks the first force suicide of 2020, following a string of alarming suicides where 10 NYPD officers took their own lives in 2019.

Of course I don’t know any details of the back story. I’ll stipulate that I may be completely wrong but it’s a hell of burden to drop onto his elderly mother. Did he really have to do it there?

Terrible news. I didn’t know him. I don’t know anybody in that part of the country, but it’s still a tragedy.
This may be one of the results when somebody feels that they cannot open up about their problems to anybody, or that no one now in a position of power is willing to listen to them.

Hammer coming down on them? Were these 10 related in ANY way to those that had Anthony Weiner’s laptop? Did they have the goods on Hillary? (Am I remembering correctly that the NY cops had possession of it at one point in time?)

He was assigned to the Office of the Police Commissioner. I don’t suppose that means he came to know things that might not have been safe to know.

I would expect NYC suicides to go up because of the new no-bail policy. Why the hell be a cop in NYC and risk being shot at when their bleeding heart legal system just lets the perps walk??
Then again, all your pension is tied up there so “starting over” someplace else doesn’t seem very bright either.
Expect a lot of police retirements.

Remember the book and movie THE NEW CENTURIONS by Joseph Wambaugh? Suicide is quite a problem in the police force.

Last week there was a shotgun suicide in my town.
Dude had enough brains to do it on the creek side... behind a church. He did leave a note inside the house.
