But on Jan. 1, the Utah-based faith will deliver the latest blow to the struggling organization when it pulls out more than 400,000 young people and moves them into a new global program of its own.

I would imagine that rainbow Christian churches will be happy to take them.

The finest youth organization to ever work to turn boys into men is the family headed up by a alpha male father and it was instituted by God Himself.
I was in Boy Scouts. I appreciate the contribution they made to many lives but the fact is anytime you outsource duties that should be where God has instituted you are going to have major trouble.

Our troop in NC had Baptists, Catholics, Methodists, Presbyterians, Mormons and Jews. The Methodist church sponsored the troop. Things went well because we had such a great Scoutmaster. That is until the Church got a new pastor who decreed that the Scoutmaster must be a member of the church. Our nice little ecumenical movement disintegrated.
Or that they are an organization with global members you know like the Catholic Church or the Baptists??
I was in the BSA back in the mid 60’s in a troop in Thailand run by a group of US Army NCO’s, I still think about those awesome camping excursions with our military surplus gear and the guiding principles that those sergeants impressed upon their charges.
Sadly when my family moved back to the states and the BSA troops I sought out were disorganized and the scouts were more interested in sneaking smokes and beer out back of the church fellowship centers. Camping trips were non existant but for once yearly.
I quit after a few meetings. Pops asked me why and I told him. I took up fishing with my hard scrabble farmer uncle instead (who was a former WWII army sergeant). He taught me a lot.

Took another group to Kandersteg Switzerland this summer, which is one of Baden Powells camps described as a “ permanent jamboree”. About 2000 kids from over 50 countries, Coed and single sex groups, all meeting and doing group activities as Scouts,
Will be going back to UK in 2021 to stay at more coed Scouting camps for high adventure Scouting for my GS troop. A Scot group has offered to host us at one of their camps,
Hopefully despite angry crude US men and women who see and slam coed Scouting as a sexfest, the world Scout movement will keep a light on and a door open for US Scouts who survive dysfunctional adult leadership.
No, coed scouting is a threat to common sense.
Teaching girls about outdoor stuff is why Girl Scouts was created.

The old BSA is gone because it no longer lies up to its own founding principles:
It is no longer open to just boys.
The Moto: “Be prepared”.
The Slogan: “Do a good turn daily”.
Oath: “On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my Country, to obey the Scout Law, to help other people at all times, to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”
The Scout Law: “A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful. thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.”
Nope, no room for that these days.

No court in the US is going to defend single sex organizations. Period.
BSA bowed to the inevitable wave of lawsuits they were going to lose.
Girls wanted to be Scouts, with earned rank and high adventure activities.
The GS is not a chartered group, and troops are pretty independently established, have dismal programming from the national org and the Councils ( busy selling off our camps they have neglected) but troop leaders are free to not use it, or augment it. If we want to put our GS into patrols and teach them to lead, we can do it. But few women do.
“Female leadership” generally just irks hell out of me. But bottom line is , GS troops are only as adventurous as their mostly female leaders
The failure of many GS troops to offer an equivalent high adventure and leadership experience as BSA, lies in the laps of many of its female volunteer leaders who were not raised in or conditioned to lead, or to teach high adventure activities. At least this generation of girls will have choices.

Excuse me, but WHERE did anyone say that?
Scouting was a place the 2 sexes could go...since we no longer have ANY other place that allows that kind of separation ...I was a GS in late 50s, early 60s for 11 years. Same leader all 11 years. GS now are a mess depending on leader with political correctness, etc.
Good. The BSA was once a great American institution. Destroyed by the left.
