KAYSVILLE, Utah (AP) For decades, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was one of Boy Scouts of Americas greatest allies and the largest sponsor of troops. But on Jan. 1, the Utah-based faith will deliver the latest blow to the struggling organization when it pulls out more than 400,000 young people and moves them into a new global program of its own.

Of the 2.4 million scouts, 1 in 5 is in a Mormon sponsored troop, or roughly 480k scouts. The assumption is that about 20% of those will remain in BSA in another troop (quite a number of those being ones close to achieving Eagle rank.) That’s where the 400k (384k rounded) number comes from.
They went ped, boys fled.
“although saying it’s “global” might indicate the left has already impacted the new program. “
The Mormon church is global, why shouldn’t any program they have be global?
Q. What is blue and comes in brownies?
A. Cub Scouts, camping in the woods with girls
Yeah, most countries have co-ed scouting. They also have Socialism and take guns from citizens. No thanks.
Now theres a real reasoned response.
Their realky is very little resistance to the Left destroying everything that is a reminder of traditional American values.
My husband did Indian Guides with our two boys for years, then Scouts with both of them through Eagle. Then he participated in Indian Princesses with our younger daughter. I remember after they stopped doing it, the programs merged into Indian programs. I just looked it up and they still have parent/child programs - it looks like they call them Y-Guides.
“They water down the message so as not to offend the easily offended, “
It’s worse than this. They invited anti-Christians to run their organization.
This is what corporate dollars means. With corporate dollars came positions on Boards of Directors. That’s why there was a push for homosexuals and against being “morally straight”.
True story:
When I was a kid, 50’s and 60’s, in small town rural Mississippi, the local Methodist church tried to get a BSA Troop going. They failed because the Baptists wouldn’t send their kids to an organization run by the Methodists.
Sounds crazy today, but that was what life was like then...........
The BSA, The Bi-Scouts of America is collapsing.
Who would have predicted that? /snark
Because having girls learning to hike, pitch tents, back, pack is not wholesome for male mormons. Women have a place in their culture. It is not in Scouting.
My wife grew up as a Mormon. She did Brownies, Girl Scouts, etc. all through the Mormon Church. And since she was an AF Brat, she did this all over the country at different stakes.
And Yes, she did camping, hiking, swimming, horseback riding, etc., pretty much everything the boys did.
Where I live in Pittsburgh the troops were often affiliated with particular churches.
There was a Catholic troop, a Presbyterian troop, a Methodist troop, etc. The churches generally provided meeting space and material support.
They've known a long time that this day would come.
Yes, but in the Deep South, religious partisanship is a way of life, or at least it was then.
The nearest Catholic church was 20 miles away. One day a new family moved into town and there was abuzz about they might be CATHOLICS!.............
“My husband did Indian Guides with our two boys ...”
Thanks for the information.
I have no problem with boys and girls doing things together as long as there is not the hazard of undesirable sexual activity. Most problematic is homosexual seduction.
I have no problem if boys want to do things without girls and vice versa.
If someone who considers themself to be neither boy nor girl wants to be in a group of boys or girls, they need to blend in the best they can and not trumpet their differentness.
If its wholesome, family based or supports Americas core values the left will destroy it. Stupid, wannabe socialists (who would be begging for someone to save them after a year of socialism) and perverts have destroyed our culture and are hard at work on our constitution.
Actually, it is brilliant.
With which points do you disagree, and why?
My church body (Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod) ended its relationship with the Boy Scouts 4 years ago: https://blogs.lcms.org/2015/boy-scouts-of-america-update
