No, coed scouting is a threat to common sense.
Teaching girls about outdoor stuff is why Girl Scouts was created.
No court in the US is going to defend single sex organizations. Period.
BSA bowed to the inevitable wave of lawsuits they were going to lose.
Girls wanted to be Scouts, with earned rank and high adventure activities.
The GS is not a chartered group, and troops are pretty independently established, have dismal programming from the national org and the Councils ( busy selling off our camps they have neglected) but troop leaders are free to not use it, or augment it. If we want to put our GS into patrols and teach them to lead, we can do it. But few women do.
Female leadership generally just irks hell out of me. But bottom line is , GS troops are only as adventurous as their mostly female leaders
The failure of many GS troops to offer an equivalent high adventure and leadership experience as BSA, lies in the laps of many of its female volunteer leaders who were not raised in or conditioned to lead, or to teach high adventure activities. At least this generation of girls will have choices.
