“It’s true, I think non-African-Americans think African-Americans all look the same!” She said she has witnessed people confuse Reps. John Lewis, D-Ga., and Elijah Cummings, D-Md., who both are black and bald.
Detroit’s chief of police, Chief James Craig, gave Tlaib a tour of the Real Time Crime Center, where the department uses facial recognition technology to find suspects.
Craig, who is black, did not go for Tlaib’s suggestion.
“I trust people who are trained, regardless of race, regardless of gender,” he responded.

I have run into people who whine how whites cannot tell blacks apart or the different Asian groupings.
I tell them, how many blacks or asians can tell the different European and Caucasian tribes apart?
Who can tell a Celt from a Angle, or a Swede from a Finn, or a German from a French, or a northern Italian from a Southern Italian, and that from a Greek, who can tell a Portugese from a Spainard.

You know there is a very funny clip on YouTube of Samuel L. Jackson being interviewed by someone who hadn’t done their homework.
The interviewer says something like “I loved “The Matrix”.”
Jackson shrugs and says “I liked it too.”
The interviewer starts talking about “The Matrix”.
Jackson says, “Why are we talking about that?”
The interviewer hems and haws a bit.
Jackson says, “You think I’m Larry Fishburne? Is that it?? You think we all look alike? Are you serious??” He was pretty indignant.
They obviously don’t know who they hired...they’re all white in the personnel department. /sarcasm

How much supervised classification is there with facial recognition programs?
My goodness, let’s say you had 1 million people in your database - with and without glasses, with and without hats, etc., so the goal is that the program, when presented with a new picture, has to match which of the million people it was. Let’s say all 1 million had been arrested.
That is not trivial programming. It would be beyond my abilities.
I always get her confused with a radish.
