We already know that the Left regards the United States Constitution as a noxious constraint on their dream of using the might of the state to compel obedience to their dogmas, however they may evolve. The First and Second Amendments bother them a lot. But when the Supreme Court is dominated by liberals who make up rights they like from the previously unknown penumbra of the "living" Constitution, that pesky document matters less.
But the news that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been treated for a recurrence of pancreatic cancer has the Left in a tizzy. Should President Trump be able to name a replacement for her and the GOP-majority Senate confirm that nominee, the Court will have a 5- or 6-vote majority for originalism — actually following what the Constitution says, not what Liberals imagine that it should have said.
This prospect led David Axelrod warn that progressives will tear the country apart if the Constitution is followed, should Justice Ginsburg succumb before Trump leaves office. Of course, he used the passive voice to avoid the truth that the Left will be the ones doing the tearing apart:

I think she is already gone and is being kept on ice to be trotted out when the libs need the distraction of a state funeral.
That's fair, since Trump made SCOTUS one of the pillars of his campaign in 2016.
Trump will respond by 1) showing how he's already kept his promise to appoint conservative judges, and 2) hammer Democrats for announcing that they have a secret list of judges that they refused to make public, unlike what Trump did.
I think their plan is to wait until late in the 4th year...
Ha! I don't think they will have too much control over her health. When her time comes, it comes. I'm putting the over/under at Thanksgiving, which is late this year.

It's never too late for the President to appoint a nominee. It's up to the Senate to move on the confirmation hearings.
The Democrats may try to argue that hearings would put too much of a burden on them while they are campaigning for reelection, but Trump and McConnell would reply by saying it's the perfect opportunity for them to get the sense of their constituents on the matter. Or... it's motivation to hurry it up so they can go back to campaigning at home.
Anyway, it doesn't matter what the Democrats say when McConnell controls the schedule.

I think the biggest thing that would drive the left absolutely bonkers would be for President Trump to nominate Ted Cruz to replace her.
Oddly enough, he is regarded as a legal genius so could easily fit on the court. But there would be Democrats immolating themselves on the street at the idea. Their level of hysteria would convince most voters that a barrel of hyperactive monkeys would be better as elected officials.
Trump will nominate another woman to replace RBG.
My guess is the one already on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals -— Amy Coney Barrett ( she was the one who gave Dianne Feinstein the fits and would do so again ).
