The last time Nashville’s mayor’s office made national news - a scant seventeen months ago - then mayor Megan Barry resigned after pleading guilty to felony theft relating to an extramarital affair she had with the police officer in charge of her security.
This time it’s for a better reason. After David Briley served as interim mayor, a full-term election is now in progress. And that election is being shaken up by Carol Swain, a woman who is - of all things in traditionally Democratic Nashville, a blue stronghold in a red state - a no-holds-barred black, Christian Republican conservative.
Swain’s vitae resembles neurosurgeon/cabinet member Ben Carson’s, but is in some ways more extraordinary. She was one of twelve children born in rural Virginia in 1954, growing up in a shack without running water. Her mother, a victim of infantile paralysis who never made it out of high school, was physically abused by her stepfather. Her own father ended his education at third grade. Carol herself, shoeless and unable to attend on snow days, did not finish high school either. She dropped out and married at sixteen to have three children, one of whom died of sudden infant death syndrome. Five years later, she was divorced and tried to commit suicide.
But then everything slowly changed. In a remarkable bootstrap story she would likely ascribe to her faith, Swain earned her GED while working as a cashier at McDonald’s, then attended, in succession, Virginia Western Community College, Roanoke College (BA), Virginia Tech (MA), University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (PhD) and Yale (MLS).

This is an interesting candidate, and she has fought hard for her views and beliefs. Would love to see the machine broken— for it is run by the elvis mafia dopers as far as one can assess. And appalling how Vanderbilt treated this PhD.
If I were in Nashville, she would be the only one I would even consider voting for. The current mayor had to turn away a modest pay raise to Metro employees while offering to build a $250 million major league soccer stadium.

Even Republicans are pushing JohnCooper here. First race I’ve seen where everyone democrap or republicans is running as nonpartisan
I hope she does something to chase off the horde of hack “musicians” before the sidewalks get covered in new country.
You'd probably be surprised, but a great deal of "the country-western" vote in Nashville is democRAT. Far more than you can imagine.

I agree! I have a lot of friends in Nashville and the surrounding area and have found that to be true.
The leftists will start screeching like wounded eagles.
It takes serious guts to do what she has been doing, because they specifically target anyone who strays from the Official Received Narrative. I recognize the name somewhere, maybe interviews in the media back when I could still stomach watching the networks. She’s published stuff on firearms, I think.
Nashville hasn’t elected a GOP Mayor since 1886 (yes, 1886). We haven’t elected a GOP Congressmember since 1872 (yup, 1872), and that only because the Democrats split and ran two separate candidates.
Well this would be great.
I’m not for race politics, but if a Conservative black woman can bring some black girls into reality because they actually have a role model i’m all for it.

This is technically a non-partisan race, but that’s a joke since the Nashville GOP is non-existent (in a TN House GOP supermajority, not a single member (out of 10) from this county is a Republican, though there is one RINO State Senator).
This race will go to a runoff as no one is expected to win with a 50%+1 vote on Thursday. Swain placed 2nd in last year’s special. If she were a moonbat Demonrat, the media, Big Ed, and local pop culture would be all in for her. Because she’s not, they’re going to destroy her by any means (and combine it with ignoring her candidacy).
