Washington (CNN)Secretary of State Mike Pompeo abruptly canceled a scheduled trip to Germany, where he was planning to meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel "due to pressing issues," the State Department said early Tuesday.

No specific reason was given for the cancellation. The press pool traveling with Pompeo has not been told where they are going next, and have been warned they may not be able to report from the country they are going to until after their departure.

If the sec state is going east, where would that be? We can rule out Teheran. Moscow? He would be there by now so that would be out. Pressing security interests, hum, sounds like not China as that is economic. Israel, Korea, come to mind. Someone said a threat by a proxy, hum, Korea is now a proxy of both Iran and China.

China is a very fickle trading partner, and can never be trusted.

Right. I don’t see why they would not be able to report from China if it is just about the trade deal.

I have a hunch it might have to do with Afghanistan.

Really about the only place reporters can’t report from is North Korea.

I’m thinking more along the lines of Vince Vance and the Valiants.

Humm, if the fleet is headed to the area of Israel, Syria and Iran and a Brigadier General from Iran just defected to us what else could it possibly be other than the Middle East. This is where the action is...no doubt.

CNN guessing, nobody knows at this point:

“The sudden schedule change comes two days after the Pentagon deployed a carrier and a bomber task force to the Middle East, in response to “specific and credible” intelligence that suggested Iranian forces and proxies were planning to target US forces in Syria, Iraq and at sea.

The carrier group has been ordered to Strait of Hormuz in order to send a deterrent message to Iran, US officials said Sunday. The move is likely to heighten tensions as Tehran explicitly warned the US in April against any moves to block or interfere with the Strait. The 21-mile-wide waterway separates Iran from other Gulf countries and is a crucial conduit for the global economy, with 30% of the world’s crude oil passing through it.”

The problem is if you make a deal with China, two hours later you need to make another one.

Is that like if you make a deal with Mexico, two hours later you wished you made a deal with China? ;)

“They are acting like he is going to a dangerous place.”

Hopefully, Iraq.

Pompeo BIAP briefing: “Sorry the up-armored to the embassy can only hold my immediate staff”. “You are all welcome to obtain local conveyance to a hotel of your choosing.

When you stop to wonder what might be currently about to blow, you realize what a pressure cooker this world is.

Iran, Syria, Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia, China, North Korea, Venezuela, etc...

This Administration does have their plates full.

I’d guess that the big tariff announcement on China is the most recent strong indicator of where the problem may lie, but the Chinese might be putting a surrogate into play as their next move.

High stakes, multi-front confrontation, for long-term strategic objectives.

Reuters reported yesterday (6 May):

“ROVANIEMI, Finland (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Monday the United States has seen activity from Iran that indicated a possible “escalation,” one day after the United States said it would send a carrier strike group to the Middle East to counter a “credible threat by Iranian regime forces.”

“We have continued to see activity that leads us to believe that there’s escalation that may be taking place, and so we’re taking all the appropriate actions, both from a security perspective as well as our ability to make sure the president has a wide range of options in the event that something should actually take place,” Pompeo told reporters.”

What would happen if Iran sunk a dozen ships in the Strait of Hormuz?
