These Senate seats are up for election in 2020
Axios ^ | 5/6/19 | Rashaan Ayeh

There are 34 Senate seats up for election in 2020 — including a special election in Arizona — many of which are expected to be brutally competitive as Democrats vie for control of the Senate.

Quick take: The U.S. Senate is currently made up of 53 Republicans, 45 Democrats and 2 independents who caucus with the Democrats. Dems must win 3 or 4 seats to take control of the Senate — 4 to recapture control — or 3, if they also win the vice presidency.

Some of the fiercest races will come from Virginia, North Carolina and New Hampshire, according to a late 2018 analysis from FiveThirtyEight.

Republican senators representing left-leaning states — Susan Collins (R-Maine), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) — are considered among the Democrats’ clearest 2020 targets.

As Democrats from Trump-won states — Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) and Sen. Doug Jones (D-Ala.) — are also vulnerable.

Some of the notable seats include Sen. Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) and Sen. Lindsey Graham's (R-S.C.).

Keep it at 53 and we’ll be thrilled, with a Trump reelection and win back the House.

Well keeping it at 53 will be as hard as winning back the House will be. That's the problem.

Let’s face it, folks. The GOP blew a huge opportunity in 2018 when they failed to win more Senate races that were very winnable.

Nope!

Moore was stabbed in the back more times than Ronald Reagan and Trump combined.

The Republicans ran robo-calls with highly visible players on the day before the election telling Republicans NOT TO VOTE FOR HIM.

Should we have avoided Trump because our leaders said no?

Should we have avoided Reagan when they did much the same in 1980?

I say stand up to the GOPe and the RNC, tell them to go to hell, and pick up a solid 99% vote on everything we believe in.

I’m tired of bowing to our masters in Washington, D. C.

It’s sad you’re not.

If they win the Senate and hold the house then kiss the Trump admin and MAGA goodbye.

Moore is a misfit and a loser. Nominating a loser is worse than nominating a RINO or even a criminal.

could defeat MN Smith if Trump takes MN

People have been talking about Republicans taking a Minnesota senate seat for years and it hasn't happened yet. And I don't see Minnesota being all that vulnerable in 2020. The 2018 elections didn't result in any increase in Republican congressional seats or a pick up of either senate seat. Smith won by over 10 points.

He’s not a misfit and not a loser.

Wow...

He has been set upon by both parties.

So was Trump. Did that make him a misfit and a looser?

Think about it.

Name one law he has broken. Thanks for your answer in advance.

Hopefully the Alabama GOP electorate is more wise than you. I refuse to believe they’ll nominate him in a run-off again next year.

They should have picked up way more than a net gain of two, that's for sure.

If he wins he will be back bashing President Trump within 48 hours. I will admit my mistake if he does not but history is on my side. He is a corrupt professional politician and nothing more.

My $ says that such an admission shall not be required.

Please send off a note right away telling Trump to resign.

Thanks in advance.

You’re doing the same dang thing the Republican leadership did in 2016. Did you like it then?

Did we hand the victory to Hildabeast in 2016?

Come on. You know better than what you are spouting.

“The 2018 elections didn’t result in any increase in Republican congressional seats...”

Actually, the GOP picked up two House seats in Minnesota - the 1st in southern Minnesota and the 8th in northeastern Minnesota. Both seats were pickups from the Dems.

The 1st was a lot closer than it needed to be and the now incumbent there (Hagedorn) will have to work hard to solidify his hold on that seat.

The 8th was not close. The GOP incumbent (Stauber) had great name ID up there and the Dems nominated possibly their worst candidate.

Please stop that silliness.

1. Trump was set upon by both parties — and he WON. Moore ran a half-assed campaign just like Hillary Clinton did. That’s what makes him a LOSER.

2. I never said Moore committed any crimes. That doesn’t make him a viable candidate for an elected legislative office.

3. If you ask 1,000 people in the Democratic leadership which candidate they’d love the GOP to nominate for that seat in 2020, at least 999 of them would say: ROY MOORE.

Nothing more needs to be said.

The Senate race will be all about Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

If she doesn't die in the next six months, Democrats will insist on the Biden Rule in 2020.

McSally in Arizona is likely to have a terrible opponent. Unfortunately, she may be even worse.

McSally makes Hillary look like a master campaigner.

And the Democrats took the 2nd and 3rd districts from the Republicans for no net gain by either party. It remained 3 Republicans to 5 Democrats.

Doug Jones is DOA....

So Dems would need to take at least 4 to put the Senate at 50-50 and 5 to take control (because Trump ain’t losing).

And other than Collins being taken out for her vote for Kavanaugh. I don’t see any other GOP being in any real threat in 2020.. unless some scandal would pop up or something.

So, my guess is, Jones is replaced by a GOP, and Collins possibly being flipped... for a wash. McSally would be a wild card since she lost before, incumbency may not be enough for her to hold the seat..

So, worst case, Dems net +1.

Udall will be an uncontested seat, so that’s a possible opening for a GOP pickup.. to make 2020 a wash.
