A Utah elementary school teacher apologized to one of her Catholic students Wednesday -- and may still face disciplinary action -- after she forced him to wash off the Ash Wednesday cross on his forehead, the boy’s family said.
William McLeod, a fourth grader at Valley View Elementary School, received the ash marking -- made in the shape of a cross and applied by a priest -- for the Catholic religious day that signals the start of the Lenten season and then went to school in Bountiful, Fox 13 reported. He told Fox 13 he was the only student who had ashes.
“A lot of students asked me what it is. I said, ‘I’m Catholic. It’s the first day of Lent. It's Ash Wednesday,’” William said.
William's teacher, who was not identified, later approached him and forced him to wash off the symbol, he said.
William reportedly attempted to explain why he wanted to keep the ash cross on his forehead, but he said his teacher wouldn't listen.
“She took me aside, and she said, ‘You have to take it off,’” William said.
“She gave me a disinfection wipe — whatever they are called — and she made me wipe it off.”

Abolish government schools. Education should be carried out by the private, civil society ... not by government.
Did she make him wash it off in one of the foot-washing areas they probably have for Muslim students?
William should get in touch with a good attorney.
I don’t know about this one. If one religion is allowed to wear symbols of said religion in a government institution. Don’t we have to allow all expressions of religion, like say a hijab? It seems like a Constitutional matter.

I am, for the first time, officially of the opinion that we should privatize the schools, break the union, and get the government out of there.
It’s a fraud, from tip to toe. Got three kids graduating and watched the whole thing go down.
The good news - the kids know it. They are dying for something with rigor that holds them accountable, and are willing to cast off anyone who’ll disrupt the proceedings with prejudice.
Each and every day we receive more proof that publik skoolz shoujld be banned.

As an aside, my wife and I were at a restaurant yesterday. They had CNN running on one of the monitors, and both the commentators on the split screen had ash crosses marked on their foreheads.
WTF do they mean, the teacher is “unidentified”??
Bet she’d never demand Ilhan Omar remove her hijab!
