Whitaker out at Justice Department
The Hill ^ | 03/04/2019 | Morgan Chalfant

Posted on 03/04/2019 9:42:53 AM PST by GIdget2004

Former acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker has left the Department of Justice.

A Justice Department spokesman told The Hill that Whitaker’s last day was Saturday but did not expand on the circumstances surrounding his departure or his plans after leaving. It is unclear where Whitaker might go, including whether he might seek another role in the Trump administration.

Whitaker served as the chief of staff for former attorney general Jeff Sessions until last November, when President Trump tapped him to lead the department temporarily following Sessions’s ouster. Sessions resigned at Trump’s request the day after the November midterm elections, after enduring months of criticism from the president over his decision to recuse himself from special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

Whitaker’s departure comes less than three weeks after Bill Barr was confirmed as Trump’s next attorney general. Barr was widely expected to bring new blood to top leadership roles in the department, raising questions about Whitaker’s tenure.

Hadn’t they announced a couple of days ago that he was staying on in the civil rights division?

I wonder if he’s on Trumps list of judges now?

"Is Barr ridding the DOJ of pro-MAGA supporters?"

How could Barr conduct a purge in the DOJ if there was never any MAGAer's in leadership roles to begin with? The President was set up from day one for obstruction of justice charges by Comey and the Obama cabel.

Much more than expected. It was planned, it was announced, and it was promised.

Whitaker leaving the DOJ wasn't promised nor announced.

No, he’s clearing folks creating controversy....from either side.
Wait and see who Barr selects as Deputy and who else he asks to leave.

Anything that doesn’t require Advise & Consent of the Senate.

He’d be ripe for an uncorroborated schmear campaign from his Big 10 playing days. Cheerleaders, sororities, etc.

That requires Senate confirmation. I would worry about the Pub lites on that one. I think he'd be a good pick if that's the way he wants to go.

Probably not, but for sure he's on the Dem House investigations list.

He was scheduled to return to Congress to clarify his testimony related to discussions about Trump and the SDNY. Perhaps this gets him out of testifying or perhaps someone didn’t like what he was going to say.

Not hard to read the tea leaves. The speculation has all about what he is going to do when he leaves, not if.

I have notice, over the decades, that acting cabinet secretaries depart once a new permanent cabinet secretary is approved by Congress. Thus, to me, this was expected, even if not announced...i.e. it is the normal order of things.

Might be harder to call him before the House to answer questions now that he is gone.
