Executives at ABC now believe that their decision to fire Roseanne Barr from their revival of Roseanne was a mistake and the networks spin-off series The Conners may flop, according to a report from Mail Online. Two senior executives at the network told the outlet that ABC President Channing Dungeys decision to immediately fire the actress and cancel her show after she made racially charged comments about former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett was a knee-jerk decision that they would later regret.
We didnt think it through properly. What Roseanne did was wrong but we shouldnt have rushed to fire her. It was almost a knee-jerk reaction by Ben [Sherwood] and Channing [Dungey] who should have launched an investigation, one insider reportedly said. This would have given them more time to listen to the public, advertisers and cast members to determine the best decision.
Barr compared Jarrett to if the Muslim brotherhood & Planet of the Apes had a baby, comments that were condemned by Dungey as abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values. Yet one insider apparently suggested that ABC should instead have temporarily suspended her before making a final decision.
They couldve suspended her from the first few episodes without pay and had her return later on in the season, the source explained. I mean the season finale saw Roseanne going to the hospital for knee surgery. While they worked out her fate, her character could have faced serious complications and fought for her life, while simultaneously making Roseanne fight for her career with a national apology tour.
The morning the racist tweet scandal blew up, Roseanne offered to publicly apologize and do the rounds of every show but Ben and Channing werent having any of that and wanted her gone, they continued.

They’re trying to make a version of “Roseanne” without Roseanne. I can’t believe no executive has stopped this and told them how stupid an idea that is.
Rosanne won’t come back. If she did, it wouldn’t be the same. She robustly exercised her right to free speech. It wouldn’t be so robust now.
“ABC President Channing Dungeys...”
Channing Dung....name theory.
They made a huge mistake not only firing Roseanne, but killing off her character.
Yes. Trump’s “tweets of vindication!” Wonder which will tank first, Conners or Murphy Brown.
Dumbasses.
It WILL FLOP!....................
Valerie Jarrett is white to me.
Of course itll flop. It doesnt have Rosanne. I cant wait for her show to premiere. One idea would be to have the entire cast of characters played by a new cast and pick up where it left off. Or, have her living a new life, several years down the road, divorced, remarried and her grandkids are living with her because her kids are in prison or living in a cult something.
DUH popped into my mind immediately, too. Stupid jerks!
Like running ‘I Love Lucy’ without Lucy.
Bring “Roseanne” to FOX. Easy Peasy.
... What Roseanne did was wrong but we shouldnt have rushed to fire her..
Lunatic liberals would accept nothing less.
How DARE you make such a sensible and logical suggestion!
:)!
It would have to be an entirely new show and format because her co-stars all threw her under the bus.
The Bush Rule is in effect big time.
“Pissing off your Base is not a winning strategy”
Of course no one is going to tune in... Not only does the show not work without “ROSEANNE”.. for crying out loud that was the name of the show.... BUT... the way you handled her and fired here within an hour over far less than other actors in many of your shows routinely.... means a good bit of folks are DOUBLY unwilling to tune in...
My bet, probably some curiosity ratings... up front then into the toilet.
If they are smart, they will turn the whole she died into a dream, and bring it back and pretend the conners never happened.....
Of course if they were smart, they would have thought a bit more up front rather than just the knee jerk firing in the first place..
It can be done. Make it for Friday night.
Joe Rogan (who has stuck by Roseanne without flinching) has a great interview with her this week. She’s nuts, she’s wonderful and unique.
I would love to see Roseanne create a series of her own, based on the original model. It would start with her waking up from a dream, as part of an entirely new family. The old family was just a bad dream. Just a thought...
Idea. Rosanne as gov of cal surrounded by libs and snowflakes
