ABC Executives Regret Firing Roseanne, Fear ‘Connors’ Spin-Off Series will Flop

Executives at ABC now believe that their decision to fire Roseanne Barr from their revival of Roseanne was a mistake and the network’s spin-off series The Conners may flop, according to a report from Mail Online. Two senior executives at the network told the outlet that ABC President Channing Dungey’s decision to immediately fire the actress and cancel her show after she made racially charged comments about former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett was a “knee-jerk” decision that they would later regret.

“We didn’t think it through properly. What Roseanne did was wrong but we shouldn’t have rushed to fire her. It was almost a knee-jerk reaction by Ben [Sherwood] and Channing [Dungey] who should have launched an investigation,” one insider reportedly said. “This would have given them more time to listen to the public, advertisers and cast members to determine the best decision.”

Barr compared Jarrett to if the ‘Muslim brotherhood & Planet of the Apes had a baby,” comments that were condemned by Dungey as “abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values.” Yet one insider apparently suggested that ABC should instead have temporarily suspended her before making a final decision.

“They could’ve suspended her from the first few episodes without pay and had her return later on in the season,” the source explained. “I mean the season finale saw Roseanne going to the hospital for knee surgery. While they worked out her fate, her character could have faced serious complications and fought for her life, while simultaneously making Roseanne fight for her career with a national apology tour. “

“The morning the racist tweet scandal blew up, Roseanne offered to publicly apologize and do the rounds of every show but Ben and Channing weren’t having any of that and wanted her gone,” they continued.

“When we greenlit The Conners we thought that the public would tune in to see the family return but what we’ve discovered is that people want Roseanne – they don’t want the family by themselves,” they explained.

This unintentionally comedic article could've been written by The Onion.

Seriously? ABC execs are just now figuring out that they've got a big, giant turd on their hands?

This show is going to tank and I can't wait to read the President's and Roseanne's tweets of vindication.

I was never a Roseanne fan. Never watched her comedy or her show but it was obvious who people tuned in to watch.

So much seems to be a variation of "The beatings will continue until morale improves."

The Elitists in media (News and Entertainment - although is there really a difference?) just keep getting it wrong. They cancelled "Last Man Standing" then realized that was dumb and brought it back. They axed Roseanne and now realize that her show is dead without her. They were hell-bent to destroy Kavanaugh and now see that they've likely lost the midterms because of it. They still idolize Hillary, but Trump is winning everywhere and some top Democrats may be facing indictments.

They just keep shootings themselves in the foot, hoping that it will help their situation.

Maybe -- just maybe -- the News and Entertainment people should step away from partisan politics and just report the News and just provide Entertainment. Maybe that will improve their morale.

I saw an advertisement just last night announcing the premiere of the connors. I immediately turned to my spouse and said it was going to flop. We’re certainly not going to watch. However, ABC, with their infinite “wisdom” will probably keep this show on for 100 years. Kinda like the Big Brother show that no one watches but somehow keeps being renewed each season. 🤔🤔 Things that make ya go hmmmmmm
