Grizzly bears have stopped eating salmon in favour of elderberries after being forced to make a choice due to climate change.
Warming temperatures meant that the berries are ripening earlier than usual, at exactly the same time as the freshwater streams on Alaska’s Kodiak Island are overflowing with sockeye salmon.
The island's brown bears typically feed first on salmon in early summer, followed by elderberries later in the season, in late August and September.
“What you have is a scrambling of the schedule," said William Deacy, a biologist at Oregon State University that studied the phenomenon.
"It's essentially like if breakfast and lunch were served at same time and then there is nothing to eat until dinner. You have to choose between breakfast and lunch because you can only eat so much at a time."
The study found that during the unusually warm summer of 2014, the bears, which would traditionally kill up to 75 percent of the salmon, were nowhere to be seen near the streams.

Rather than making the observation and thinking he may be learning something about the bears, he concludes that the bears are doing it wrong. Stupid bears didn’t go to college, after all.

Considering it's August 26th, I'd say the bears are right on schedule.
This reads to me like bears are doing what they always do. August is almost over, so berry-eating is what they should be doing, yes?
Bears are omnivores and will gorge on berries when available - high in calories, tasty, and not nearly as much effort as chasing something with fins in cold, rushing water. This has been going on for all of the grizzly bear’s existence, it’s not some recent new behavior triggered by global warming.
They just wanted a little fiber to digest...

Alaska salmon return from the ocean to the streams of their birth in predictable waves. In between waves there might be a slight pause when the salmon are not as plentiful. Being as they are not leftist leeches the bears just might go out and find another food source while awaiting the next wave of salmon. I once shot a black bear in Prince William Sound in September that was feeding in a stream full of spawning pink salmon. His stomach contents were a mixture of berries and salmon. I didn’t realize it at the time (early 1980’s) but that must have been due to global warming. I thought he was just doing what bears do - eating all available food sources while they were available. Geez, I need to get a Phd so I can be smart like libtards.
The berries simply don't have what the salmon has. You don't bulk up on berries.
The study came out of Oregon. Enuff said!

I was out on the highway this morning and there was a Grizzly hitchhiking.
Being a charitable kind of guy, I stopped to give him a lift.
“Where you going to?”, I asked him.
“I’m headed to Texas to eat some of those washed up alligators”, he says.
“Sorry”, I says. “I’m just going to the gas station.”
Makes no difference - the salmon are going to die anyway ...
