The NYPD has intensified its boycott of the coffee and baked goods chain Dunkin Donuts after an employee reportedly refused service to police officers, The New York Post has reported.
When asked for directions to the nearest store by a member of the public, one police officer said: Im not allowed to do that.
Meanwhile, another sergeant was spotted walking into his local police department with a tray full of generic, non-branded coffee.
No D&D in the 7-3, he announced.
Last week, a police union called for a boycott of the chain after an employee allegedly denied service to two police officers.
I dont serve cops, the employee said.
The president of police labor union Detectives Endowment Association, Michael Palladino, issued a statement calling for a boycott of the chain.
He also blamed Mayor of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for creating a hostile environment towards the police.
Political leaders in this city have encouraged this type of behavior by constantly demonizing cops and pushing their decriminalization agenda, he said.
Since the story was reported, the union office received a lot of feedback from active and retired members supporting the boycott, Palladino said. I know that Dunkin Donuts supports law enforcement, which is why I am disappointed that their official statements are weak and suggest denial.
Meanwhile, a woman from Tennessee was so angered by the story that she joined in the boycott and donated to an NYPD charity, urging Dunkin Donuts to do the same.
I donated to @nycpolicefdtn in honor of @NYPD73Pct I challenge @DunkinDonuts to make substantial donation #BackTheBlue, she wrote on Twitter. According to the Post, supporters of the initiative have already raised $2000.

It’s the franchise owner, not the chain. That said, if the accusation is true and that employee hasn’t been fired, DD can and should get medieval on the heinie, legally speaking, of that franchise owner.
The employee’ name: I B Stupid?
That’s gotta hurt...
Cops have destroyed NYC businesses when they feel oppressed. I’ll never forget how they put out of business a small diner on 3rd Avenue (near their academy) when the owner complained about all their illegal parking. Within months, the business was shuttered.
Non sequitur
Criminals will find DD stores easy prey if cops don’t respond to 911 calls to those stores. Wouldn’t bother me a bit.
I can see if they boycott the one store. But, if they are boycotting the whole chain it’s wrong. I do like the statement from the chief of detectives.
I’d be willing to bet that the contract the franchise owner has with DD enables DD to deal with this problem if the franchisee won’t. Guess the real question is whether or not ownership and/or management of that franchise shares the employee’s attitude toward law enforcement.
The company apologized. For mature adults, that’s enough.
They haven’t fired the worker.
Have you read the “apology”?
Typical leftwing type non “apology.?
Next time I want to know what “mature adults” think, I’ll be sure to check with you.
The NYCPD should have been getting free coffee and doughnuts anytime they show up in uniform. Good policy and marketing to those who feel safe with police around. If they stop going, no free coffee and doughnuts, and no free image marketing for the shop or the police.
This needs to be swept under the rug with both sides forgiving the other. The individual culprit who refused service, needs to serve everyone until the idiot can find a better job.
Not a non sequitur, IMO. It shows the power that cops have.
Sometimes the cops are justified, other times not so much. In this case, DD is wrong, but perhaps there is a better lesson to teach them instead of putting them out of business. In the case of the diner, it sounds like the cops were wrong (We are above the law and if you complain there will be hell to pay.)
Just my $0.02.
If DD corporate were smart they could turn this around in their favor with a NYC ad promo that benefits the NYPD someway. Also fire that rotten employee pronto.
Donut boy has one job -to sell donuts.
If he uses that as some social justice warrior BS and isn’t fired, then DD is wrong for not firing him.
And I believe franchises are required to follow certain rules, no? If someone refused to serve a minority because they know someone who had been injured or killed by a member of that minority group, you can bet the worker who refused would be gloriously canned and a huge donation to BLM and free lifetime donuts would be given to them.
The events follow a backtrack from Dunkin spokeswoman Michelle King, who said that the stores layout is to blame, since it has two register areas, one of which is not regularly staffed. Sergeants Benevolent Association boss Ed Mullins decried that explanation as an insult, telling the Post: Basically, Dunkin Donuts is saying that the two officers in the store were too stupid to know where to order while every other customer came in and knew where to order.
Two plainclothes NYPD officers with visible badges claimed they were denied service last week for being police officers at the store at 1993 Atlantic Avenue. A store manager then disputed the account, saying the police simply werent standing in the right place to order. But the officers say the clerk explicitly told them, I dont serve cops.

Dunkin Donuts blames stores layout for rude treatment of cops
By Jennifer Bain, Shawn Cohen and Dean Balsamini August 5, 2017

Dunkin Donuts suggested Saturday that the layout of one of its Brooklyn shops is actually to blame for the rude treatment a pair of NYPD cops experienced there.
Dunkin Brands spokeswoman Michelle King continued to apologize for last Sundays incident, when the cops were refused service at a Dunkin Donuts/Baskin-Robbins on Atlantic Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant insisting the company has a long history of supporting the NYPD.
King said the stores configuration put both the crew members and two officers in a difficult situation because it was not clear where to order, adding there are two registers, but only one is routinely staffed.
The franchisee has informed us that he has made temporary adjustments to the store signage to be followed by a more permanent solution to avoid situations like this in the future, King said.
She added: The franchisee posted a temporary sign on the ice cream dipping cabinet that states to guests to place their order at the Dunkin Donuts register.
But the officers insisted that both of the lines had been staffed.
Law enforcement sources told the Post that the two cops with the 73rd Precincts detective squad who went into the store to buy ice cream were simply ignored by a clerk. I dont serve cops, the clerk said, the sources said.
Police were stunned by the companys apparently amended mea culpa.
Basically, Dunkin Donuts is saying that the two officers in the store were too stupid to know where to order while every other customer came in and knew where to order, said Sergeants Benevolent Association boss Ed Mullins. Its an insult to all members of law enforcement.
