GOP delegate fight to stop Trump heats up in federal court
Washington Post ^ | July 1, 2016 | Ed O'Keefe

Last-ditch attempts by a group of Republican delegates seeking to stop Donald Trump from becoming the GOP presidential nominee are quickly fading -- and now their fight is facing a federal legal challenge.

At issue is whether delegates to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland are bound to vote for the results of state caucuses and primaries. A group that claims the support of hundreds of convention delegates has been pushing to change Republican presidential nomination rules so that delegates can "vote their conscience" -- reviving a long-simmering debate led by GOP purists who believe that only convention delegates -- not the millions of voters who participated in the primary process -- can ultimately pick a presidential nominee.

Carroll "Beau" Correll, one of Virginia's 49 GOP convention delegates, filed suit in federal court in Richmond on June 24 challenging a state law binding him to the results of the March 1 primary. He's a former federal prosecutor and defense attorney who supported the presidential campaign of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.). His suit argues that the state law binding him to the primary results violates his First Amendment right to vote his "conscience, free from government compulsion."

The courts should reject this.

The simple remedy already provided for is that the delegate resign.

There is no reason to upend state laws and primary voter results to accommodate a few snowflake delegates who refuse to do their jobs.

“If their conscience doesn’t let them follow state law and party rules, then step aside “

Could be a problem at the Convention. There’s no tellin’ what this guy might say or do. Get him out!

I also know several Rules Committee members. They intend to quash this tactic harshly, as it would set a precedent for the future that no one wants.

This is much like the Brexit vote. It was all fun and games to let those unwashed masses vote on Brexit when the elites thought things would go their way, but it didn’t and now the same elites are throwing a fit and demanding a revote. Or perhaps the Brexit vote doesn’t count. Total dismissal of the peoples’ choice.

These sore losers should be ignored at this point!!!
Manafort must have everything secured for Trump by now!!
Personally, I learned in my teen years that bullies need to realize that their actions only serve to diminish them!!
That’s why glorifying criminals, terrorists, etc. sends precisely the wrong message.
Of course, terrorists must be killed—but no one ought to given the time of day when it comes to undermining the will of millions of voters.

Wouldn't the people who either voted for that delegate, or who feel that he is bound to represent them, "have standing" to ensure the delegate indeed represents THEM? I can understand that he wants to vote HIS conscience, but why would he offer to represent the voters of his state, then not do so?

Oh wait a minute: Is this like the many so-called Conservatives and TEA Partiers were elected, then went to Congress and proceeded to allow OabamCare, Obama budgets, and otherwise kiss the collective asses of Liberals? Sound like a familiar theme?

The Cruz douchebaggery lives on. Trump is the nominee. The people have spoken.....and are now being muted.

A friend of mine is on the rules committee. I spoke with him this morning. They are going to make sure this doesn’t happen. Trust me.

Hildy, you're a godsend. Thank you so much for keeping us informed about what's going on inside the convention process. That is very good news.

Nim Roddo agreed to the rules when he signed up. Ambulance chasers have no business being delegates. Throw him off the delegation.

“Why doesn’t Cruz put a stop to this?
He could, if he wanted to, since it’s his supporters are the ones who are causing this turmoil within the Republican party, which will only benefit Hillary.”

Just one more of the myriad if reasons why Ted Cruz should never be allowed to hold public office again. He’s exactly like HIllary Clinton in that he has little or no regard for the rule of law!

The Founding States had not intended for either the Senate or the President to be elected by popular vote. But the anti-constitutional republic Progressive Movement spooked citizens to pressure state lawmakers to ratify the ill-conceived 17th Amendment in a push to unconstitutionally centralize government power in DC, state lawmakers foolishly giving up their voices in Congress by ratifying that amendment.

The remaining step for the Progressive Movement to centralize power in DC was to get control the Oval Office by likewise corrupting the constitutional elector process for president with mob rule by letting low-information citizens also vote for president.

But thanks to a growing number of patriots who are disgusted with incompetent Obama, a corrupt Congress and state sovereignty-ignoring Supreme Court, the mob rule approach to centralizing government power in DC is now backfiring in the faces of the traitors behind the Progressive Movement as evidenced by record-breaking support for Trump.

If Mr. C was a honorable man, he would resign his position of “delegate” and allow someone to take his place, who understands that a “delegate” OF the people has a DUTY to follow “the WILL of the people”.

I can’t help but wonder how much money George Soros is paying these self-centered quislings...

That's my thought. These jerks should be handed a dictionary and told to read out loud the definition of "delegate". Delegates don't vote for themselves. They vote to express the will of those they represent.

If they can't do that, they should stay home and an alternate should take their place.

And about Cruz? It's become very obvious that he's part of The Grand Design, always was. His resume supports that view.
