Already, Clinton has claimed international affairs as a key battleground against Trump, devoting her first major address of the general-election campaign to the topic. And shes done so for understandable reasons. Foreign affairs is arguably the realm in which she can draw the sharpest contrast with Trump in terms of qualifications. In her national-security speech last week, Clinton noted that she visited 112 countries as secretary of state.
Foreign affairs is also where the stakes of the election seem highest; in her speech, Clinton conjured images of a volatile Trump in the Situation Room, blustering through matters of war and peace with one finger on the nuclear button and another scrolling through Twitter. The Atlantic’s implication is that foreign policy is a significant factor in US Presidential elections. It’s not, except during major wars. Most Americans can’t name 5 foreign heads of state, and have no broader view than their next handouts. They have no understanding of international issues, treaties, trade agreements, etc.
On Hillary’s expertise — she always brags about visiting 112 countries or whatever. And what does she have to show for it? Apparently nothing she finds worth talking about.
ISIS wouldn’t be the threat that it is today without her help...
