(CNSNews.com) - Republican Donald Trump, appearing on Thursday's "Today" show, said transgenders should be allowed to "use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate."
"So if Caitlyn Jenner were to walk into Trump Tower and want to use the bathroom, you would be fine with her using any bathroom she chooses?" host Matt Lauer asked Trump.
"That is correct," Trump said.
Asked for his view on the North Carolina bathroom controversy, Trump said the state has "paid a big price" for requiring transgenders to use the restroom that corresponds with their biological sex.
"Leave it the way it is," he said.
"One of the best answers I heard was from a commentator yesterday, saying 'Leave it the way it is right now.' There have been very few problems. Leave it the way it is. North Carolina, what they're going through with all of the business that's leaving and all of the strife, and that's on both sides -- you leave it the way it is.
"There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate. There has been so little trouble. And the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife, and the -- the economic punishment that they're taking."
AD FEEDBACK
Trump said he doesn't know if he has any transgender people working for him. "I probably do, I really don't know."
Trump noted that there's a "big move to create new bathrooms" for transgenders.
"First of all, I think that would be discriminatory in a certain way. It would be unbelievably expensive for businesses and for the country. Leave it the way it is."
“if Caitlyn Jenner “
I ain’t worried about Bruce Jenner. I’m worried about Chester the Molester.
You speak of an illicit court opinion as if it is a legitimate law.
This mindset is a surrender to a judicial coup d'etat against republican constitutional self-government of the sort given to us by our founders.
"Liberal leanings"? You are far too kind.
I think Trump’s answer should be “leave it to the States to decide” There are tons more pressing issues than this.
Thanks for messing over an awful lot of your supporters.
I am surprised that anyone is surprised. You ought to have known that Donald Trump is from New York, and has "New York Values" regarding all things social.
He will govern like a New York Liberal Democrat.
Single occupancy porta potties are the solution. {occupied} {open} That’s all you need to know.
Me, too.
But I don’t support Jenner either.
After all . . . priorities. [/sarcasm]
Can anyone tell us what our Masters of the GOPe have done that is different than Trump’s take here?
Ah no they can’t.
Their policies are identical to this.
So all you folks with the vapors out there, take a deep breath.
It’s going to be okay.
I don’t agree with it.. The only alternative is to go back to the GOPe hat in hand, so they can continue ruling us, and screw us on everything else Trump supports that we want.
This is hard ball folks. Who knew?
The problem come when a male uses the transgender label as an excuse to harass women and girls in a public restroom and can’t be arrested or removed because of his “gender identity” This just recently occurred on the west coast, and the police said they could do nothing.
He became, "conservative" after 7/11.
In fact, they mock them which accounts for most of why Ted Cruz is so detested (i.e. 'St. Ted'). Otherwise, it wouldn't be so vehement.
I'd prefer that he actually think about the implications of letting men in the bathrooms our little girls are using. I doubt that he's given the issue any thought at all.
Since Trump has made building the wall a major part of his campaign I expect him to build the wall if elected.
Not at all. I am for Trump, but I understand the reality of the power of a President with respect to the power of a USSC which will end up deciding this issue. I have to trust that Trump will correctly choose the tie breaker.
I am not comfortably assured that while Cruz might choose a tie-breaker nomination for USSC, he wouldn’t give up something like full-on amnesty to get him California and to complete his denial strategy.
