McConnell: No hearing for Garland
The Hill ^ | 3/16/16 | Harper Neidig

Posted on 03/16/2016 9:27:01 AM PDT by Nachum

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Wednesday shot down the idea of Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland getting a hearing. McConnell insisted in a floor speech that vacancy should be filled by the next president. ADVERTISEMENT “The next justice could fundamentally alter the direction of the Supreme Court and have a profound impact on our country, so of course the American people should have a say in the Court’s direction," he said.

If politicians know anything it is the power of the votes you get, they are so scared of TRUMP you can smell it.

Call me a cynic — but I think McConnel is betting on a brokered convention which will ultimately lead to a GOPe-picked nominee, which will lead to a general election loss to Hillary, which will lead to three far left Supreme Court picks.

There’s too much riding on this for this sucker to cave, so he’d better not be lying to us again.

Kabuki. I will be in a state of shock if GOPe doesn’t give this to our king.

McConnell sticks to this and we’ll see a huge tantrum thrown by 0bama, am looking forward to it.

I'm sorry to say that it is Obama who will have the last laugh rather than throwing a tantrum.

This Judge is the MOST Conservative Judge ever offered by a Democrat since FDR.

The point: Obama knew they would stand their ground so he offered up a nominee that he would NEVER normally nominate, expecting the Republicans to ignore him.

What Obama did is akin to throwing your brother in front of your speeding car while YOU'RE driving. Pure evil politics.

The right thing to do would be to have an "up & down" vote. If they do not want the nominee vote him down.. if they like him put him on the SC rather than risking if Hillary is elected she would appoint someone far more LIBERAL.

where's_the_Outrage?...you are absolutely spot-on 100% correct.
He should have graciously accepted the nomination and then quietly delay, delay, delay until summertime.
At that time announce the concerns about Garland and by that time election for POTUS would dominate the airwaves.

Biden was the one who “Borked” Bork, and the “Lyin’ King” filibustered many of Bush’s appointments.

I am not a Buddhist, but I’d call this Karma.

"..Garland is close to Justice Elana Kagan..[on the judicial spectrum]"

Well, THAT's a definite problem...

Yes and I’m sure Trump mentioned that to Mitch in their conversation the other day.

Conservative judge? He’s a gun grabber and I don’t consider a gun grabber appropriate even if he is the MOST conservative nominee by a Rat.

Hopefully McConnell holds to his word.

Garland was instrumental in the prosecution of the Oklahoma City bomber and also the Una-bomber.

I DIDN'T SAY he should be nominated. I said they should go through the process of an "up and down" vote. At this point three Senators have ALREADY said they would ignore McConnell and would like to interview Garland.

Obama is playing the Republicans and the Democrats will use it in their campaign against whoever the nominee is. Lastly.. A Conservative NON-GUN GRABBER said this about Garland.

Judge Garland “is a profoundly serious guy who really should be the kind of person you want to have on the Supreme Court,” said Joseph E. diGenova, a Republican and a United States attorney in the Reagan administration.

The GOPe will throw the election to Hillary,

(John Boehner wants Paul Ryan for President).......It was supposed to be Bush & Rubio...neither one could have beaten Hillary....neither can Paul Ryan....the GOPe wants the status quo, change nothing...do nothing....we have two winners now...Trump and Cruz....the GOPe and the left are truly terrified of them...with a brokered convention they get their choice i.e., anyone who can't beat Hillary.

The two who can and will beat Hillary!....go eat worms GOPe!!

This is all about Citizens United.

McConnell and the rest of the establishment do not want Citizens United overturned which would fundamentally change the way in which money can be raised from different entities. It was decided in a 5-4 majority recently and the liberals want nothing more than to overturn this case.

I believe the Senate will stand strong on this nominee for this one issue. If Citizens United wasn’t on the line the repubs in the senate would already be holding hearings on this new nominee.

And in doing so, gives Cruz something to use as part of his rationale for making a public apology to Mitch for calling him a liar.

A little, "praise for Mitch standing up to Barry", a pinch of, "I was ill informed, a cup of "heat of the moment", and Ted bakes a nice little Kissa You Buttcake he can sell as an example of his being a good Christian who admits it when he makes a mistake.

The RINOs are already breaking ranks to chat with the nominee, including Senator Olympia Snow - job.

Correction not Snow, I meant Collins:

Here is the list of Senatorial sell outs to Obama:

Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL)

Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH)

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ)

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME)

Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK)

Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH)

These pricks will but America into darkness for one hundred yeas, without thinking twice about it, they are on the Obama pork roll.

I think Mitch might be seeing what's happening to the rest of the GOPe and he might be trying to hop on the train while it's still building a head of steam.
