CBS Poll: Kasich Tied with Trump in Ohio

On the eve of a crucial primary that could determine the Republican nominee, Ohio Gov. John Kasich is tied with real estate mogul Donald Trump in the Buckeye State.

Both have 33 percent support in the CBS News Battleground Tracker poll released Sunday morning.

The poll shows that Kasich does well among voters who say the economy is in good shape, pollsters noted, while Trump leads among those who feel the Buckeye State’s economy is floundering.

But Trump has a 20-point lead over his closest challenger in winner-take-all Florida. He has 44 percent support in the poll, followed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz with 24 percent and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio with 21 percent.

If you think the phoney-baloney unemployment numbers coming out of government bear any resemblance to reality it’s YOU who isn’t living in the real world.

“Trump tried, but Kasich and his gov’t cronies found a violation and had it pulled.”

Trump’s campaign, legal and media advisers should have known the rules for campaign ads and made sure the ad was in compliance before putting it on the air. During my business career I worked on many commercials and I’m fully aware of the production, editing and approval processes.

This was a stupid mistake by Trump’s team. Kasich’s team I’m sure noticed the error immediately upon airing and requested the commercial be withdrawn. Trump would have done the same if the shoe was on the other foot.

I find it strange the commercial wasn’t immediately reedited and put back on the air. In less than an hour the correction could have been made. I’m surprised Trump’s media and legal team isn’t more competent. Given his army of lawyers, his lengthy media experience, and the pride he takes in the “competence” of his managers, it is surprising they made such an amateur mistake.

Even though in yesterdays primaries, Rubio took DC. Obviously the party members, even in D.C. are starting to see the light!

Yeah the Trump team is incompetent. Beating everyone despite spending far less money and having Left and Right media against them and 3 candidates tag teaming against him in selected States.

Such dummies!

The poll shows that Kasich does well among voters who say the economy is in good shape...

About 5 people are in that list...

Kasich wins easy. And it won't even be close. Kasich has by far the better ground game. And he has the momentum in the polls.

Shouldn't your man Cruz be winning Ohio?

Here’s my prediction: if Trump is under 35% in any state, he can be beaten in that state; if Cruz is within 10 points of Trump in a state, Cruz can win that state.

Kasich might win but it will be close

Yes, it will be close if Kasich wins it. But as it's winner-take-all, Trump will be denied 66 very important delegates even if he loses by just one vote. And that would be a shame as it gets us one big step closer to a brokered convention where the GOP establishment will use all the parlor tricks at their disposal to get their boy in.

This does not bode well for Trump or for Cruz.

Trump must win OH, FL, NC and IL at a minimum this Tuesday to put this away. Cruz can and might win MO but that won't hurt Trump so long as he wins the other four big states that are voting that night.

I'm sure many of us will find a way to spin it in Trump's favor if he wins at least FL, NC and IL but losing OH will be a devastating blow because it will drag this process out at least several more weeks and the mainstream media and establishment GOP are now getting traction with regard to planting in the minds of many Americans that Trump is too divisive to be president.

This can't be emphasized enough. If Trump has a clean sweep Tuesday night, Trump cannot be stopped and we can start thinking about the general election. If Trump wins four of five (and loses MO to Cruz), it's still pretty much over. But if Trump loses MO to Cruz and OH to Kasich, this race is far from over.

Tuesday night will be very, very important.

These are stinkin' panel polls!!! They merely promote a narrative.

Respondents were selected for participation from available panel members (YouGov panel) to be representative of registered voters from each state in terms of age, race, and gender.

Great analysis Sam, I completely agree. Ohio is a game changer, it is imperative that he win it and is the one I am most concerned about.
